Fight of the Month: Jarrett Hurd W12 Erislandy Lara

The April 7 title unification bout between WBA Super World super welterweight champion/IBO World super welterweight champion Erislandy Lara and IBF World junior middleweight champion Jarrett Hurd ran away with the Fight of the Month vote, and with good reason. Hurd is an action fighter who pretty much gives his opponent no choice except to engage in a firefight. He did that with Lara and Lara responded by holding his own throughout the contest. He kept it close every step of the way with his excellent boxing skills and his punching accuracy but the pressure applied by Hurd kept adding up, Finally, it resulted in a knockdown in the 12th round.

The knockdown in that critical final round is what sealed the Split Decision victory for Hurd. Judge Burt Clements scored the bout 114-113 for Lara but was overruled by judges Glenn Feldman and Dave Moretti who both scored it 114-113 for Hurd. Thus, the man nicknamed "Swift" won the highly contested bout by 1 point.

With tremendous two-way action every step of the way, and a highly dramatic finish to boot, it's no wonder Hurd's win over Lara received a near unanimous vote for Fight of the Month!
