Knockout of the Month: Francisco Emanuel Torres KO 1 Sergio Daniel Cordoba

For sheer brutality, nothing in the month of April topped Francisco Emanuel Torres' first round destruction of his fellow Argentinian Sergio Daniel Cordoba. There were other impressive knockouts scored by better known fighters but this one, highlighted by Torres' savage 1-2 combination which dropped Cordoba face first to the canvas, earned the most votes from TTR's participating members.

Torres-Cordoba, held in Mercedes, Buenos Aires on April 20, was part of a Mario Margossian promoted card which saw Pablo Manuel Ojeda win the WBC International Silver super featherweight title from Horacio Alfredo Cabral and Walter Gabriel Sequiera retain the FAB Argentine light heavyweight title by knocking out veteran Gaston Alejandro Vega. As exciting as the card was, the Torres-Cordoba bout, with the memorable images of Torres' senses-rattling combination, Cordoba hitting the canvas face first, and the referee immediately calling it off, stole the show!

As mentioned before, there were other impressive knockouts in April- two of which, scored by marquee fighters, were televised in the United States. On April 21, Jermall Charlo knocked out Hugo Centeno, Jr. at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York to win the vacant WBC Interim World middleweight title. A week later, in El Paso, Texas, featherweight contender Claudio Marrero bounced back from his September 2017 TKO-7 loss to Jesus M. Rojas with a 33-second knockout of previously undefeated Jorge Lara. However, neither matched the sheer violence of Torres-Cordoba and that's why Torres-Cordoba won the honor of TTR's Knockout of the Month!
