During the two day period of Thursday, July 1 and Friday, July 2, three lighter weight fighters currently ranked by TTR's membership saw action and all three stopped their opponents quickly.

July 1- Tokyo, Japan-

TTR #10 ranked minimumweight Yasutaka Kuroki stopped TTR unranked veteran light flyweight Nobuyuki Enomoto at 2:31 of the third round. Kuroki, who is also ranked #10 by the WBC, brought his record up to 24-4-1 with 16 KOs while Enomoto dropped to 18-9-4 with 3 KOs.

This was Kuroki's first bout since his March 27th unanimous but closely contested and closely scored points loss to WBC strawweight champion Oleydong Sithsamerchai.

July 2- Nakhon Pathom, Thailand-

Lineal flyweight champion and TTR #1 ranked flyweight Pongsaklek Wonjongkam, the holder of both THE RING's and the WBC's titles at 112 pounds, knocked out former two-time PABA flyweight champ Rey Megrino at 1:37 of the first round of a scheduled 10-round, non-title bout. This was the second time Wonjongkam, now 76-3-1 with 40 KOs, has defeated Megrino (12-12-2, 10 KOs). The Thai southpaw outpointed his Filipino foe over 8 rounds on October 24, 2007.

With former WBC flyweight champion Koki Kameda intending to fight as a super flyweight champion from now on, Wonjongkam must look elsewhere for his next title bout. Old rival Daisuke Naito, newly crowned WBC Silver champion Eden Dapudong, if he gets by NABF and Mexican national champion Wilbert Uicab in August, WBA champion Daiki Kameda, if he gets by former WBA champ Takefumi Sakata in their September showdown, and former WBC light flyweight kingpin Edgar Sosa are all possible opponents for 2010 defenses.

July 2- Tijuana, Baja, California, Mexico-

Manuel "Chango" Vargas, ranked #11 as a minimumweight by TTR, fought for the first time since being knocked out by WBA interim super flyweight champion Nonito Donaire in a non-title bout last February. Vargas' return was quick and to the point. He knocked TTR unranked flyweight Ricardo "Rocky" Armenta in the first round of a scheduled 8-rounder to improve to 27-5-1 with 12 KOs. Armenta plunged to 10-7-1 with 4 KOs. He has lost 7 of his last 8 bouts.

Vargas, a former WBO interim mini-flyweight champion, has also held the WBC Continental Americas light flyweight and Mexican national flyweight titles during his career. A world-class fighter who owns wins over Edgar Sosa, Humberto Pool, Gilberto Keb Baas, Juan Esquer, Daniel Reyes, and Walter Tello, Vargas will now seek a major opponent in any of the three lightest weight classes.
