Bami Retains European title
British/Congolese light-welterweight Ted 'Dangerous' Bami retained his European 140 crown with a comfortable UD over the Italian Guiseppe Lauri. It was a repeat win for Bami over a man he had previously outpointed for this same title six months ago. But Bami failed to impress in the fight and it wasn't a fun fight to watch. Bami tried all night to force the action but his Italian opponent was dirty and constantly looked to the referee for assistance. He repeatedly pushed Bami's head down in clinches and then would complain to the gullible referee that it was Bami committing the foul by coming in with his head down.

A point was taken from Bami in the 8th round by the inept referee who had fallen for the whining tactics of Lauri.

Bami did have the satisfaction of dropping Lauri in the 10th round courteousy of a left hand. But he was tired in the last couple of sessions as clearly the spoiling, complaing, style of the Italian had been draining on him both physically and mentally.

Thankfully the judges saw through Lauri's nonsense and awarded Bami with scores of 118-112, 117-110, 116-111.

Bami will be glad to see the back of this guy as will no doubt anyone who watched the fight! Bami said afterwards that he's interested in fights with the likes of Hatton, Witter and M'baye. While one can't fault Bami's ambition, i would suggest that certainly Hatton and Witter are a couple levels above him at this time and M'Baye also would be a very tall order. More likely next for Bami will be a fight against former British welterweight champion Young Muttley.

Also on this card we saw the return to action of Hartlepool's popular Michael Hunter. Hunter fighting for the first time since his 5th round stoppage defeat to the Canadian Steve Molitor whilst contesting the IBF super-bantamweight title, looked sharp in beating a game Ben Odamattey over 8 rounds at featherweight.

Hunter Vs. Odamattey

Hunter was busy and was always in control and will be pleased to have got his career back on track after the setback against Molitor. Hunter improved to 27-1(12) and looked strong at featherweight, though far bigger tests lay ahead than the willing but limited Odamattey.
