TTR RANKED FIGHTERS IN ACTION- January 8- Opetaia Retains Lineal Title/Huni Wins, Gentzen Loses on Undercard

Earlier today in Broadbeach, Queensland, Australia, Lineal World cruiserweight champion Jai Opetaia retained all of his criserweight titles by KO and two TTR ranked contenders saw action. Heavyweight Justis Huni won by a 2nd round TKO while lightweight Taylah Gentzen lost a junior welterweight bout by split decision.



MEN'S PROFESSIONAL BOXING:

Lineal, Transnational Boxing Rankings Board, and The Ring World Cruiserweight Titles-
Champion Jai Opetaia (27-0, 21 KOs)
KO-4 2:17
David Nyika (10-1, 7 KOs)
- This bout was also for Opetaia's IBF World cruiserweight title.
- Nyika was a substitute opponent. Opetaia was originally scheduled to fight Huseyin Cinkara (22-0, 18 KOs).
- Opetaia floored Nyika twice in round 4.

Heavyweight Bout-

- Huni stopped the reigning South African heavyweight champion, whose title was not on the line, to retain the WBO Global heavyweight title and regain the vacant IBF Pan Pacific heavyweight title.

- This bout was fought for the vacant WBO Global flyweight title.
- Fajardo scored a legitimate knockdown in round 5.
- Yohana was down again in round 10 but the referee ruled it a slip due to the water on the canvas in Yohana's corner.
- The scores differed according to the source. The Cebu Daily News reported that Yohana won by three 116-111 scores while Kampeon ng Suntakan reported the scores to be 116-111, 116-111, and 117-111, all in favor of Yohana.
- I watched the bout on YouTube and scored it for TTR's Main Page. I had it 114-113 for Fajardo. I could only make out one 116-111 score when the scores were announced due to the poor sound quality of the recording.
- On January 5, 2025, BoxRec reported that the scores were 116-111, 116-111, and 115-112, all for Yohana.
