- This bout was an eliminator for the #1 spot in the IBF's super middleweight rankings.
- Shvedenko, who owns wins over Nadjib Mohammedi and Artur Osipov, was fighting for the first time since his UD 10 win over Osipov on December 21, 2020. Four times in 2021 and early 2022, Shvedenko had been scheduled to fight in IBF eliminators and four times those eliminators- against Aidos Yerbossynuly, against Vladimir Shishkin, and twice against Caleb Truax- were scratched due to COVID-19-related reasons.
- Scull, whose IBF Latino super middleweight title was not at stake, outpointed Shvedenko by the scores of 117-111, 117-111, and 118-110.

- Sigqibo, who has victories over Sabelo Ngebinyana, Rene Dacquel, Keyvin Lara, Joseph Ambo, Cris Paulino, and Jerald Paclar, won the vacant IBF Continental Africa junior bantamweight title.
