TTR RANKED FIGHTERS IN ACTION- December 14- Naoya Inoue, Masataka Taniguchi, and Thammanoon Niyomtrong Win

Earlier today, four fighters ranked by TTR as being among the best currrently campaigning in their respective weight classes were in action. Three, Naoya "Monster" Inoue, Masataka Taniguchi, and Thammanoon Niyomtrong (formerly known as Knockout CP Freshmart), won while one, Robert Paradero, lost (to Niyomtrong).

Inoue's and Taniguchi's bouts were part of a card at the Ryoguku Kokugikan National Sumo Stadium in the Sumida ward of Tokyo. Elsewhere in Tokyo, at the Korakuen Hall, two bouts featuring fighters not ranked by TTR which may impact TTR's rankings took place. The winners of those bouts were Koichi Aso and Yoshimitsu Kimura.

- Inoue also retained the WBA Super and IBF World bantamweight titles. He improved to 17-0 with 15 knockouts in world title contests.

Masataka Taniguchi (The Ring #8, TTR #10; 15-3, 10 KOs)

Wilfredo Mendez (Transnational Boxing Rankings Board #4, The Ring #4; 16-2, 6 KOs)
- Mendez, who was defending the WBO World mini-flyweight title for the third time, was fighting for the first time since he stopped Gabriel Mendoza in the 9th round on February 8, 2020.
- This was Taniguchi's second world title shot. He lost by UD 12 to then WBO champion Victorio Saludar on February 26, 2019. Saludar, now the WBA "regular" World champion, lost the WBO belt to Mendez on August 24, 2019.

- Niyomtrong (CP Freshmart) is 4-0 in WBA Interim World title bouts, 8-0 in WBA World title bouts, and now 3-0 in WBA Super World title bouts.
- Paradero drops to 0-2 in world title contests having lost by SD 12 to Victorio Saludar earlier this year.

- Naito, whose only other losses were by decision to Kenichi Ogawa at 130 (Unan. Tech. Dec. 5- 12/14/15; UD 10- 12/3/16), was making his 5th defense of the OPBF super lightweight title.
- New OPBF champion Aso is a former Japanese super lightweight champ, having held that title from 2/9/17 until 12/14/17.
