During the two-day period of Wednesday, December 16 and Thursday, December 17, three fighters ranked by TTR as being among the best currently competing in their respective weight classes were in action. All three, Tim Tszyu, Melvin Jerusalem, and Norbelto Jimenez, were victorious.

Two other TTR ranked fighters were scheduled to fight during this two-day period but both had their bouts canceled at the last minute. WBO World mini-flyweight champion Wilfredo Mendez (TTR #4, Transnational Boxing Rankings Board #4, The Ring #4; 16-1, 6 KOs) was slated to defend his title against Alexis Diaz (WBA #13, WBO #15; 25-2, 17 KOs) Wednesday night but became ill after weighing in. On Thursday night, WBA World light flyweight champion Carlos Canizales (The Ring #3, TTR #4, Transnational Boxing Rankings Board #4; 22-0-1, 17 KOs) was supposed to defend his belt against Jesus Silvestre (WBA #6; 37-7, 26 KOs) but Silvestre failed to make weight . The veteran challenger tipped the scale at 114 pounds, 6 pounds over the divisional limit.
