The first boxing matches held in the United States since March 14 took place at the Never Surrender MMA Gym in Abilene, Kansas on Saturday, June 6. The "mixed" card included 8 professional boxing bouts, 2 pro bare knuckle boxing bouts, 2 pro kickboxing bouts, and 1 pro MMA bout.

Professional Boxing:

Super featherweight Desmond Jarmon (9-0, 5 KOs) stopped journeyman Mike Fowler (7-28, 2 KOs) at 0:46 of the fourth round. Jarmon scored multiple knockdowns.

Shawn Simpson, weighing 121 3/4, remained undefeated (12-0, 4 KOs) by halting Dakota Laster (126 1/2; 3-10-1, 3 KOs) at 1:18 of the first round. Simpson floored Laster twice.

Super middleweight Antonio Woods (2-0, 2 KOs)
TKOed Jessy Ebrecht (0-1) at 0:24 of the 2nd round.

Super middleweight Chris Thompson (2-0, 1 KO) unanimously outpointed Brandon Wright (2-3, 2 KOs) over 4 rounds. Thompson won by three 40-35 scores.

Debuting welterweight Arturo Moreno (1-0) won a 4-round, majority decision (38-38, 39-37 X 2) over Kynndale Prather (0-6).

Super middleweight Jack Freriks (3-0, 2 KOs) unanimously outpointed Richard Smith (0-2) over 4 rounds. Freriks also fought in a bare knuckle contest (see below).

Featherweight Andre Marquez (6-1, 4 KOs) knocked out veteran Antwan Robertson (10-21-1-1 NC, 6 KOs) at 1:19 of the opening round. Robertson has now lost six consecutive matches.

Debuting featherweight Luis Velasquez (1-0, 1 KO) won by TKO when Dalton Treaster (0-1) retired in his corner after the first round.

Bare Knuckle Boxing:

Isaac Doolittle (199 3/4) won his debut by KO at 0:24 of the 2nd round. His opponent, John McAllister (202), fell to 0-2.

Jack Freriks (see above) won his bare knuckle boxing debut with a 5-round, unanimous decision (48-46, 49-45, 50-43) over Randy Mast (0-1).

Pro Kickboxing:

Jake Lindsey (174 1/2; 1-2, 1 KO) KOed Andrew Aronson (173 1/2; 0-1) at 2:04 of the first round.

Debuting Austin Mayle (1-0, 1 KO) KOed fellow novice Braiden Howell (0-1) in the 2nd round.

Pro MMA:

Drake Heitland (1-0) defeated Nathan Gossens (0-1) by submission in the 1st round.


The fighters were required to complete medical questionnaires and to undergo temperature checks but were not required to be physically tested for COVID-19. Kansas has had 10,467 cases of COVID-19 and has suffered 234 deaths as a result of the disease.
