On Saturday, January 11, an important bout between two TTR ranked light heavyweight contenders took place at the Hard Rock Hotel & Casino in Atlantic City. After ten rounds, the clear winner of the match, Joe Smith Jr. of Shirley, Long Island, had to settle for a split decision victory.

- Smith dropped Hart in round 7.
- Two of the judges, Henry Eugene Grant and Joseph Pasquale, saw it for Smith by the scores of 97-92 and 98-91 respectively.
- Judge James Kinney had it 95-94 for Hart. Hopefully the New Jersey State Athletic Commission will question Mr. Kinney in regards to the criteria he used to determine Hart won this fight.
