Earlier today at the Hard Rock Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas, world-ranked Can Xu of China and American southpaw Isaac Zarate scored narrow wins over tough Mexican veterans Ernesto "Duende" Bernache and Horacio "Violento" Garcia respectively.

Making his debut in the United States, Xu, 24, was fighting outside of his native China for the third time. He had previously fought in Japan and in Australia. The WBA #2/WBC #10 ranked featherweight improved to 3-0, all by decision, on foreign soil and 15-2 with 2 KOs overall by winning a hard-fought, eight-round, split decision over the 29-year-old Bernache. The scores were 77-75 for Xu, 77-75 for Bernache, and 78-74 for Xu.

Bernache, who was fighting for the first time since his upset, eight-round majority decision win over Emmanuel Dominguez on October 21, 2017, slips to 24-11 with 12 KOs.

Xu has now won 12 consecutive contests. That streak includes wins over Hurricane Futa, Kris George, Corey McConnell, Jack Asis, and Nehomar Cermeno.

Zarate, 26, of San Pedro, California, raised his record to 16-3-3 with 2 KOs also by winning a split decision after a hard-fought eight rounder. The 28-year-old Garcia, once a high-ranked super bantamweight contender, drops to 34-5-1 with 25 KOs.

Reports regarding other bouts on this card will follow.
