Kevin Mitchell wins by TKO in an impressive display against the late substitute Edison Torres at the York Hall arena, Bethnal Green. Mitchell was due to fight a much anticipated bout against British Champion Carl Johanneson, unfortunately Carl was forced to withdraw through injury. Following the withdrawal Kevin was then named to defend his commonwealth title but the Ghanaian's blood test results also forced him to withdraw, following that in steps the durable Venezuelan Edison Torres.



Torres never really troubled Mitchell who looked much bigger than his Venezuelan counterpart and it wasn?t long before Torres just looked like a man trying to survive, Torres was taking big shots to the head and each time fainting backward onto the ropes as if to entice Mitchell to steam in, round 3 however it became apparent it was no such tactic as referee Howard John Foster decided he had seen enough and Torres slumped into the ropes completely out on his feet, medics promptly lunged into the ring to aid the fallen Venezuelan where after a couple minutes recovered to congratulate the victor.

After the fight a disappointed looking Kevin Mitchell stated he hopes to fight Carl Johanneson at the O2 arena on the David Haye vs Enzo Maccarinelli undercard which was an offer backed up by his promoter Frank Warren. Kevin also went on to say he hopes 2008 will be a big year for him with ambitions of a world title fight shortly down the line.
