Can Lawton spoil the party?
On friday night at the Norwich showgrounds Jon Thaxton the reigning British lightweight champion will be making the first defense of the title he won in impressive style by defeating Lee Meager just before Christmas.

Thaxton is one of boxings soldiers, having been in with some outstanding fighters in his career including current 140 pound king and P4P entrant Ricky Hatton. Thaxton is a tried and tested veteran of the ring and will be looking to make a statement in the first defense of the British title in front of his Norwich fans. Thaxton has been looking ahead to a future fight against British boxing's latest superstar, the Olympic silvermedalist Amir Khan. But before any of that can happen he must first negotiate what might be a very tricky assignment against the reigning English champion Scott Lawton.

The thirty year old challenger from Stoke will be seeking to ruin the Thaxton party in this his first tilt at a British title. Fighting on his opponents territory should offer no worries to the challenger as he became English on away turf when he stopped the Doncaster man Stefy Bull in 8 rounds. Lawton is a stylish upright boxer who has represented his country as an amateur. He has waited patiently for his chance at the domestic crown and though a fairly heavy underdog he figures to provide stern resistance to Thaxton. An upset is certainly a possibility here.

Also on the same card former world title challenger Esham Pickering will be looking to get back on track when he fights for the vacant Britsh super-bantam weight title against the tried and tested Marc Callaghan.
