LORENZO OUTPOINTS ROSALES
The main event of the November 9th edition of Telefutura's Solo Boxeo Tecate featured the WBC's no. 6 ranked super featherweight Giuadalupe "Bronco" Rosales taking on the WBC's no. 11 ranked 130-pounder, Francisco Lorenzo, the WBC CABOFE (Caribbean Boxing Federation) champion, in a non-title, 10-round bout. While Rosales impressed with his world-class chin and his crowd-pleasing tenacity, it was the veteran Lorenzo's night to shine. Fighting before an enthusiastic audience at the Utopia Paradise Theater in the Bronx, New York, Lorenzo, who hails from San Cristobal, Dominican Republic, used his superior reach to repeatedly back up the aggressive Rosales. While not shutting out the 26-year-old Mexican, "El Ahogado", now 36, won enough rounds to be deservedly judged the winner 97-93, 96-94, and 96-94 on the officials' cards. The win, Lorenzo's 30th (with 14 by KO) against 4 losses, should earn him a top ten WBC ranking. He's a solid pro who, over the years, has posted wins over Freddy Cruz, Ubaldo Hernandez, Ivan Valle, Nate Campbell, Priest Smalls, and Cristobal Cruz (twice). Rosales slipped to 25-2 with 15 wins by KO.

In the 8-round semi-final, up-and-coming super featherweight Argenis Mendez won a one-sided, unanimous decision over Jorge Ruiz. All 3 judges scored the bout 80-67, Mendez, who represented the Dominican Republic in the 2004 Olympics, is now 9-0 with 6 KO's while Ruiz fell (literally, as he was knocked down numerous times during the bout) to 5-3-1 with no knockout victories.

In an undercard bout of note, undefeated WBC #24 ranked heavyweight Kevin Johnson, staying active, improved to 17-0-1 with 6 KO's with a unanimous decision over journeyman Andrew Greeley (13-19-2, 1 ND, 7 KO's) in a 6-rounder.
