JOSE LUIS CASTILLO RETURNS WITH TKO WIN
On Saturday, October 27, in Mexicali, Baja California, Mexico, former two-time WBC lightweight champion Jose Luis Castillo returned to the ring for the first time since his one-sided loss to Ricky Hatton in June.

Castillo, ranked #4 at 140 pounds by both the WBC and the IBF, was matched with fellow Mexican veteran Adan Casillas. The game Casillas made Castillo work as he pressed forward repeatedly. Castillo, faced with a determined challenge, effectively varied his attack to Casillas' head and body. He dropped Casillas three times during the bout. Casillas was undeterred until the third knockdown convinced him not to continue any further. After seeing Casillas no longer wanted to go on, referee Juan Jose Ramirez waved the bout off at 2:38 of the 6th round.

It should be noted that initial reports had Castillo weighing 146 for the bout but it was later reported that he weighed in at 139 1/2. According to all reports, Casillas weighed 144 1/2.

The win improved Castillo's record to 56-8-1 with 48 KO's while Casillas fell to either 20-7 with 15 KO's or 22-6 with 15 KO's depending on the source.

In other fights on the card:

Bantamweight Jonathan Arias remained unbeaten (13-0, 6 KO's) with an eight-round, split decision over WBC #22 ranked flyweight Francisco "Panchito" Arce (24-4-1, 15 KO's), Jorge Arce's brother;

veteran Heriibero Ruiz (37-6-2, 21 KO's) won on a 6th round disqualification over super bantamweight Moises Zamudio (11-18, 8 KO's);

Super flyweight Enrique Quevedo (5-2, 2 KO's) stopped Hugo Ruiz (9-1, 9 KO's) in the 4th round- Ruiz had scored 9 consecutive wins by 1st round KO or TKO and had Quevedo down in the opening canto but could not put him away;

WBA Fedebol flyweight titlist Hernan "Tysonito" Marquez (14-0, 10 KO's or 15-0, 12 KO's, again depending on the source) bombarded Baltasar Morales (1-4, 1 KO), halting him at 2:15 of the 3rd round in a non-title super flyweight contest;

Super lightweight Orlando Mendivil (11-1, 9 KO's) KO'ed Jose Luis Rodriguez (0-1) in the 2nd round; and
