Moore Vs Facey II Results
Jamie Moore (W27-19KO-L3) successfully defended his British light middleweight title (probably for the last time) against mandatory challenger Andrew Facey (W19-6KO-L4-1D) in a hard fought fight at Wigan`s Robin Park arena.

Facey sporting the awkward style favoured by fighters of the Ingle camp made it a difficult night often fighting backward and using his size and reach to frustrate Moore. In the first meeting back in 2003 Moore blew Facey away with a 7th round TKO but this time Facey came in better prepared and nothing to lose!

As things got started Facey used the ring and holding tactics whenever possible in an attempt to nullify the impending attacks, Jamie realized he would have to grind out a win here and take shots to get his own off. To begin with Moore was finding success throwing in bunches, sneaking in a body shot while trying to catch Facey`s chin. As the mid rounds approached Moore started to get out of sorts only throwing single punches and allowing Facey to rack up shots that weren`t really hurting Jamie but scoring points none the less, the more this happened the more Jamie found it hard to get into a rhythm.

In round 5 Facey started to look more confident and caught Moore with a right which backed him up on the ropes, Facey then threw a barrage of shots hoping to get a stoppage as Moore ducked and dived them without returning fire however Jamie pulled out a clubbing left to the head forcing Facey to get defensive again.

Frustration started to wear on Jamie Moore and in round 7 as he was caught attempting a sly head butt on Facey, referee Howard John Foster spotted it though and warned Moore he wasn`t going to be having any of it.

The fight developed into a case of who wanted it most in the 9th round, as Jamie Moore was looking tired from the amount of effort he had put in to get through the long reach and awkward style of Andrew Facey. Facey had decided to try and take the middle of the ring now and started coming forward. Facey momentarily jolted Moore but possibly became over excited, got careless and Moore landed a right followed up by 2 solid left`s to the jaw which put Facey down. As he fell Facey landed on the ropes first and Jamie came in to finish the job off only to be pulled out the way by Howard John Foster who was ruling it a knock down anyway. Cruelly though Facey got extra time to recover as once he got to his feet Howard called time to severely warn Moore about coming in after the knock down. (To be fair to Moore some ref`s have not ruled a fighter being held up on the bottom ropes as knocked down.) Luckily for Moore no points were deducted but the moment had gone and Facey was in survival mode for the rest of the round.

It all came to a head in the 11th round where Jamie Moore got his chance again, Moore started the round well getting in a good right hand; smelling blood he went in for the kill knocking Facey down for the 2nd time in this fight. Facey got up but fatigue seemed to be very noticeable and moments later fell down again after a brief exchange, however Howard John Foster did not rule it a knock down. The combatants got underway again, as Moore pounced on the fading Facey. As the pair slumped on the ropes, the two were instructed to break and Howard pulls Moore back. Facey with no support now and nothing left in the tank fell to his knees and the fight was stopped.

Overall Jamie Moore had a tough and frustrating night being forced to grind out the win, it wasn`t a vintage performance and he was certainly made to look bad by Facey who`s style would do the same to most fighter`s. Full credit to Andrew Facey though who seemed a well-prepared better fighter this time. Moore didn`t give up however and like a true champion dipped into the well, toughed it out and got the win. Afterward Jamie Moore stated he wants to progress to European level next and move on from the domestic scene.
