Steve Molitor: Fighting through Shadows
The super bantamweight division has slowly asserted itself as one of the best in boxing. It boasts a series of fighters whose pugilistic talents are as varied and unique as the men who wield them. There's the wild swinging Daniel Ponce de Leon, whose pound-for-pound power can change a bout with one punch. There's the freakishly tall Celestino Caballero who carves his six foot frame down to a 122 pound toothpick. And, of course, there are Israel Vazquez and Rafael Marquez, a couple of throwback warriors whose third fight this March is certain to become a fight of the year candidate.

Lost amongst this crew is perhaps the best fighter in the division, Canada's Steve Molitor. Molitor is a slick southpaw who is extremely hard to hit and who packs a punch with underrated power. Fighting to escape the shadow of his better known contemporaries, while looking to draw them into the ring, Molitor must treat every fight as a showcase fight right now.

Molitor vs. Hunter

Molitor's next showcase will be this Saturday, January 19th. Rumble at Rama 3 features Molitor's third defense of his IBF title in as many appearances on Canadian TV. He will step through the ropes to face Ricardo Castillo, the brother of the more famous Jose Luis. On paper, Molitor-Castillo should be a one-sided affair. Castillo lost his last two bouts at 122 pounds, including a decision to Takalani Ndlovu who was knocked out by Molitor this past July. However, Castillo was more impressive in his last fight, winning the WBC CABOFE ? get this ? lightweight title. That he won a title, any title, three weight classes above his customary fighting weight shows, if nothing else, that Castillo is rugged and tough.

Molitor vs. Ndlovu

Molitor needs to be ready. With another impressive victory he takes one more step on the path towards a high profile bout with Ponce de Leon, Caballero, Vazquez, or Marquez. These four little giants stand tall in the landscape of the super bantamweight division. Molitor is looking to slay them.
