TTR RANKED FIGHTERS IN ACTION:

4/23- Coventry, West Midlands, England- TTR #5 ranked super bantamweight Rendall Munroe won his second consecutive WBC super bantamweight title eliminator by stopping TTR unranked Victor Terrazas at 0:57 of the 9th round. This win, which came in an official final eliminator, makes European and Commonwealth champion Munroe the mandatory challenger for the winner of WBC champ Toshiaki Nishioka's April 30 defense against WBC #10 ranked Balweg Bangoyan. Munroe, ranked #1 by the WBC and #7 by the IBF, is now 21-1 with 9 KOs. Terrazas, the WBC's #3 contender, slid to 25-2-1 with 13 KOs. In his previous bout, held on November 20, 2009, Munroe had outpointed former European bantamweight titleholder Simone Maludrottu in a combination EBU title defense/WBC eliminator.

4/23- Dubai, United Arab Emirates- TTR #7 ranked minimumweight Milan Melindo, who competes in all three of the lightest weight classes, retained the WBC Youth Intercontinental flyweight title by stopping TTR unranked Komrit Twins Gym, a late substitute, in the 4th round. Melindo, ranked #3 by the IBF and #4 by the WBO at 105 pounds and #11 by both the WBC and the WBA at 112, improved to 21-0 with 6 KOs. Twins Gym, who filled in for Melindo's originally scheduled opponent, Devis Perez (WBO #13 at 115; 12-1-2, 6 KOs), dropped to 15-4 with 11 KOs.

(Note: It was originally reported that Melindo's opponent was Komrit Twins Gym- 15-3, 11 KOs- who was subbing for Devis Perez- WBO #13 at 115; 12-1-2, 6 KOs. Months later, it was determined that "Twins Gym" -AKA Komrit Lukkuongmuekol, AKA Komrit 3K Battery, AKA Komrit Eveready Gym- was not the fighter in the ring with Melindo.)

4/24- Herning, Denmark- TTR #3 ranked 168-pounder Mikkel Kessler regained the WBC super middleweight title with a hard-fought 12-round, unanimous decision over the defending champion, TTR #4 ranked Carl Froch. The contest was a Group Stage 2 bout of the World Boxing Classic Super Six Tournament. Kessler trailed 58-56 on TTR's card after six rounds but rallied during the second half of the bout, winning the 7th, 8th, 11th, and 12th rounds with the 9th round even. In the 8th, Kessler staggered Froch and sliced the bridge of the champion's nose. Froch won the 10th round, inflicting a nasty cut above Kessler's left eye. Both fighters landed bombs in the 11th but the more aggressive Kessler had the slight edge. The challenger sealed the deal in the final round, another action packed-frame, by being on the attack and by cutting the champion by his left eye. The three judges turned in respective scores of 117-111, 115-113, and 116-112 while TTR, agreeing with the outcome, had Kessler winning 115-114.

4/24- Alsterdorf, Hamburg, Germany- TTR #9 ranked light heavyweight Juergen Braehmer retained the WBO title by stopping TTR unranked Mariano Nicolas Plotinsky, the WBO's #6 ranked contender, at 2:36 of the 5th round. Braehmer dominated the bout, dropping Plotinsky in the first round and battering him until the referee finally halted the contest. The champion is now 36-2 with 29 KOs while the challenger, whose March 7, 2009 11th round knockout win over Thomas Ulrich convinced the long-time contender and former title challenger to retire, fell to 16-4 with 8 KOs.

4/24- Ciudad Obregon, Sonora, Mexico- WBO junior bantamweight champion Jorge Arce, TTR's #7 ranked 115-pounder, won a non-title bantamweight bout by knocking out TTR unranked veteran Cecilio Santos at 0:58 of the 7th round. The victory ensures Arce, now 54-6-1 with 41 KOs, of a June 26 title bout against defending WBO interim bantamweight champion Eric Morel ( TTR #7 ranked at 118). Santos, a former four-time world title challenger, has lost three in a row, 5 of his last 6, and has fallen to 24-14-3 with 14 KOs.

4/24- Ontario, California, USA- TTR #5 ranked junior middleweight Alfredo Angulo stopped TTR unranked Joel Julio at 1:39 of the 11th round to retain the WBO interim junior middleweight title. Angulo won the first round but a moble and focused Julio outboxed the champion over the next three rounds. Gradually, Angulo regained control and started to break the challenger down. Julio's movement, which had been part of his offense during the rounds he won, became almost solely defensive in purpose. While the challenger did land some punches, the shots were not his usual heavy variety. Angulo walked through them and did good work to Julio's body and his head. In the 11th, the champion landed a wicked right that sent Julio crashing to the canvas. The Florida-based Colombian beat the count but referee Raul Caiz waved it off after determining Julio was not in condition to continue. The win raised Angulo's record to 18-1 with 15 KOs while the WBO #12 ranked Julio fell to 35-4 with 31 KOs.

4/24- Ontario, California, USA- Former WBC light heavyweight and IBF and Ring Magazine cruiserweight champion Tomasz Adamek, currently ranked #11 by TTR was a heavyweight, scored an impressive 12-round, majority decision over TTR #7 ranked heavyweight Chris Arreola. The IBF #4/WBA #9/WBC #11/WBO #11 ranked Adamek won the first three rounds with his speed and his work rate. Arreola, who outweighed Adamek by 33 1/2 pounds (250 1/2 to 217), used his size and power to his advantage to capture the 4th, 5th, and 6th rounds. The cagey Adamek then made the necessary adjustments and outboxed and frustrated the WBO #3/WBC #5/IBF #9 ranked Californian for much of the second half of the fight. Arreola had his moments and won the 8th round on TTR's card but knew he had lost when the final bell sounded. One judge surprisingly scored the bout 114-114 but was outvoted by his colleagues whose respective cards tallied 115-113 and 117-111. TTR was close to both, having it 116-112 for Adamek.

4/27- Saint Petersburg, Russia- TTR #18 ranked middleweight Dmitry Pirog of Gelendzhik, Russia won the WBC Baltic title by stopping defending champion Sergei Melis of Narva, Estonia at 2:42 of the 6th round. Pirog, ranked #2 by the WBO, #10 by the WBC, #11 by the IBF, and #14 by the WBA, extended his unbeaten record as a professional to 16-0 with 13 KOs. His WBO Asia Pacific title was not on the line. Melis not ranked by TTR but listed at #30 by the WBC, dropped to 15-2 with 5 KOs. He had won two in a row since losing by a TKO in the 4th round to Frenchman Julien Marie Sainte in a non-title bout last October.
