It's on the same card as the Shinsuke Yamanaka-Anselmo Moreno rematch.

I favor Ruiz. Hasegawa's seen better days, and Ruiz is a pretty tough guy. Should be fun though, and is definitely a great addition to the card.

It would be a great win for Hasegawa at this stage of his career. Most likely I think he'll end up being stopped again though.

FIRST FIGHT

Shinsuke Yamanaka 23 0 2
vs
Anselmo Moreno 35 3 1
Bantamweight
WBC World bantamweight title

Yamanaka won by SD

As expected Yamanaka adopted the winning gameplan of fighting it from outside the pocket with his busy jab and follow up straight lefts. That neutralised Moreno's counterpunching from the backfoot. Forced Moreno to try to land the lenghty left which was easier for Yamanaka to manoevre around. Still a VERY close fight but imo the jab from Yamanaka made the slight difference.

Yamanaka is the king of the straight punch 1-2... mixing that deceiving but precise jab and following up with a precise straight on the button

Like almost ALL real southpaws, they have the precise power hand uppercut in their arsenal
Yamanaka has decent pop too

Once one of the best technical boxer in boxing, once the best counterpuncher in boxing... Now ???
One thing is sure Moreno can claim he won vs Yamanaka. It was THAT close. But the rematch is in Japan and Moreno needs to apply some adjustments.

Ultimately imo he needs to find a solution to Yamanaka's jab which leads to distance boxing and pressuring him to try desperate straight shots at full arm lenght to land anything...

A good solution which is unlikely to happen but still... Solis showed us it's possible... Could Moreno take early risks when Yamanaka is confident and more aggressive...try to trade a little and maybe land a big counter to take a lead on the cards...
Goal would be to force Yamanaka into fighting more aggressively, dropping the distance fighting with the jab and straights...

Moreno is such a good fighter, anything is possible here is he gets Yamanaka off of his safe winning gameplan.

One thing that jumps out when researching Cuatito Ruiz is how much TV exposure, great wins and regular quality stoppages Ruiz got over the last few years...
Image

In 9yrs he only loss twice... once a controversial SD loss in Japan to Koki Kameda... The 2nd win recently vs Ceja (a perfect left hook on the button), a loss he avenged in his last fight with a stoppage win.
Image

Ruiz has scored brutal stoppages... beauties
Excellent straight puncher too, good impulsion, great timing.
Image

Good lengthy hook too.
Image

Makes you wonder why a fighter like Hasegawa who has a soft chin would fight a brutal fighter like Ruiz?????

Hasegawa has to be one of the most talented and gifted offensive fighters... His best skills and most efficient is imo his straight punches flurries while goind forward. Impressive and very effective.
Image

Looking forward to this one. Hasegawa is more gifted...
Image

BUT his durability is not good... and he is fighting a beast in Cuatito Ruiz... It will be brutal and quick IMO.[/size]

Can Moreno win a dec?

Post by tainos »

I thought he clearly beat Yamanaka the first time and got hosed on the dec. Chemito reminds me so much of my favorite fighter of all time Wilfredo Benitez. Defensive minded counter puncher. I doubt he can get a dec but Im riding with my boy.

I think he can probably get a decision, but the judges will probably favor Yamanaka in any close round. He needs to make the rounds he wins decisive.

I didn't think the first fight was a robbery...to me it was extremely close, and just happened to go the home guy's way by a very tight margin.

I don't believe Moreno is in a position where he needs to clearly get the better of 9+ rounds to get a decision, but if the judges are looking to give one guy the benefit of the doubt in close rounds it probably won't be him.

Definitely. His style isnt a dominant one. The rounds he wins are usually close. Hopefully he opens up more in this one and makes it decisive.

Youre right it wasnt a robbery but i thought Chemito did enough to win.

I also thought Moreno won narrowly. He probably will get the same treatment although Yamanaka may be slipping.

And Yamanaka becomes the first to stop Moreno....putting him down 4 times in the process.

Great night for the Japanese boxers...Hasegawa also stopped 5 to 1 favorite, and seemingly much bigger, Hugo Ruiz.
