How do you build stamina?

Post by loseronriver »

What could Taylor or any fighter do to improve their stamina? Running marathons? swimming? Train in the snow in Russia? Running through Philly and beat on some frozen meat? Sparring more?

thoughts?

"I knew he didn't want the fight," Dawson said. "He keeps talking about Philly and being a gangster. He's no gangster. Gangsters don't quit. He's weak. He's a weak physically- and mentally-minded person. He has no power."

All of the above. But much of it is in the mind. A boxer can try to hard in there, tighten up. The mental aspects of boxing can be over welming.

Running, excercise, and eating right are the biggest ways.
The fighters he's beaten aren't even household names in their own household.

Little Floyd said Novocaine was injected into both of his hands before the bout. Novocaine is an analgesic, which is illegal in WBC title bouts.

Just something simple like relaxing can make all the difference. Fighters can spar for 20 rounds in the gym but can gas after 4 in a real fight.

Well first, you should not train hard or do weights 2 days in a row, as this will not be beneficial, you need at least a day off between heavy workouts, to allow your body to recoup and recover, constant heavy workouts without a day off will not allow your muscles to rebuild and in the long run will not improve your endurance or stamina to any great degree, and in fact will cause the body to react to this regimen as over trained and you will come up stale and flat.
i truly encourage 3 days a week monday, wednesday, friday, with a light workout tuesday and thursday, and just stretching and a few exercises saturday and sunday morning. and if you are doing weights watch your development very closely as if you start to muscle or bulk up cut back or see a fitness instructor to develop a program to strengthen your body without bulky or short muscle development as this will have a detrimental effect on your speed and quickness

Hill sprints are Really a good thing, just remember to do a stretch and light work out before you do, as this is a strenuous exercise, if you can figure out how long in time you do a set of sprints and try to work it out as 3 minutes duration with a minute to recoup for example if your hill sprints are of 10 - 15 seconds then do a fast jog on level ground for 1 minute-> then your hill sprint -> then a fast jog on level ground -> then your hill sprint-> then finish the round off with a fast jog-> then a FULL minute off and repeat as necessary but never more than three rounds before you take enough time off to return your heartbeat to normal rest
And soccer is a super game to play to increase your endurance and conditioning as soccer players are probably the most conditioned athlete's of all the professional sports.
Just Remember that when you have a large water intake you also have a large amount of vitamins and minerals being flushed from your body, so you will have to supplement your body with a Multi-Vitamin one a day capsule taken daily....
and just a few nuggets of knowledge, no swimming and stay out of the hot tub, if your over 30 years of age NO soya products, eat a well balanced diet with lots of protein and Pasta. NO soda, drugs or alcohol, limit red meats, NO artificial sweetners of any kind. early to bed and early to rise makes an athelete look forward to his training regimen

hopes this helps

It's not really his stamina that prevents him from throwing. He isn't a pressure fighter and has trouble dealing with them. He also doesn't like throwing while moving backward.
