Re: TTR/TBRB/The Ring/WBC/WBA/IBF/WBO/IBO- latest ratings

Post by KSTAT124 »

The WBA's September 2020 ratings, based on results through September 30, 2020, were published and posted on the WBA's website September 30, 2020.

The only major changes are as follows:

200+- Fres Oquendo, has hasn't fought since July 6, 2014, has finally been removed from the WBA's Top 15.

154- new WBA-WBC-IBF Super Champion: Jermell Charlo (had been WBC Champion only); previous WBA-IBF Super Champion: Jeison Manuel Rosario- now ranked #5.

147- new World Champion: Yordenis Ugas (had been ranked #2); World Champion had been VACANT.

While there are no egregious rankings like last month's "Leonel Barcelos- in at #13 at 115" (which to the WBA's credit was quickly corrected), Christopher Lovejoy is still ranked in the heavyweight Top 15 (down to #15 from last month's #14) and there's "Jesus Alejandro Ramos- in at #10 at 140".

Ramos is a 19-year-old southpaw from Casa Grande, Arizona. He has yet to fight in a scheduled 10-rounder but has in his last three bouts, all slated for eight rounds, stopped Rickey Edwards, Ramal Amanov, and previously unbeaten prospect Esteban "Chucky" Garcia. That translates to him being a talented prospect worth keeping an eye on. It doesn't merit bestowing upon him the status of #10 ranked super lightweight contender in the world. He may earn that some day but he hasn't yet.

Maybe in the future, Ramos will win a world championship belt or two. But looking good at 13-0 with no wins over any bona fide Top 15 contenders certainly isn't enough to guarantee it and shouldn't have been enough to elevate him into the WBA's Top Ten.

As always, there are links to the WBA's ratings at:

Today, October 26, 2020, the IBO launched their new website and published their October-December 2020 computerized rankings. This is the first time since April that the IBO has issued new rankings. I am going to have to update the links we list to each of their seventeen divisional Top 100s. After I do that (which won't be tonight), I'll list the major changes in their new rankings.

Edit: October 29- the links to the IBO's website have been updated. Rather than linking each individual Top 100 like before, I had use a link to their male Top 100s. The reason for that is the IBO now uses individual downloads for each weight class.

Super Middleweight: new #2 contender- David Benavidez (previously N/A); previous #2- Fedor Chudinov (down to #3)

Super Welterweight: new Champion- Erislandy Lara (had been Ranked #1); new #1 contender- Jarrett Hurd (had been ranked #4)

The WBO's October 2020 rankings were posted on the WBO's website November 20, 2020.

On the PDF you can download from the WBO's website, these rankings are listed with the heading "Ranking as of October 11, 2020" which was the same heading used for the September 2020 rankings. The footnote reads "ranking as of October 17, 2020" (September's footnote had "Ranking As of September 16, 2020"). It should be noted, however, that these rankings are actually based on results through November 14, 2020.

There are only three divisions with major changes:

Lightweight- new Champion (and Super Champion)- Teofimo Lopez (had been IBF Champion only); new #1 contender- Ryan Garcia (had been #2); previous Champion (and Super Champion)- Vasyl Lomachenko- now #2; and previous #1- Lee Selby- now #9;

Bantamweight- new #1- Joseph Agbeko (had been #2); previous #1- Jason Moloney- OUT of Top 15

Flyweight- new Champion- Junto Nakatani (had been #3); Champion had been VACANT; new #1 contender- Angel Acosta (had been #2); previous #1- Giemel Magramo- OUT of Top 15.
