The Ring's latest weekly ratings (for the period that ended October 20) and the the IBF's latest monthly rankings were posted on their respective websites on October 21.

The Ring's contained changes in 3 weight classes:

in the light heavyweights, Bernard Hopkins moved back up to the #1 contender's spot from #2 while Chad Dawson was moved from #1 down to #2;

in the middleweights, Marco Antonio Rubio moved up to #10 to #9 while James McGirt, Jr. moved down from #9 to #10;

Among the changes in the IBF's were the following:

Heavyweights: Chris Arreola up to #4, Cedric Boswell in at #14;

Cruiserweights: Marco Huck up to #3, Firat Arslan in at #12;

Light heavyweights: Jurgen Brahmer and Silvio Branco dropped from top 15- both are fighting for world titles- Brahmer, the WBA's, Branco- the WBC's; ratings outdated- Chad Dawson still lised at #5 while Antonio Tarver is still lised as the champion;

Super middleweights: Robert Stieglitz up to #3, Karly Balzsay in at #13, Jean Pascal- out- N/A- WBC;

Middleweights: Peter Quillen in at #10, Sebastian Sylvester- out- N/A- WBA

Junior bantamweights: back in at #7- Roberto Vasquez, out- Jose "Carita" Lopez- N/A-WBO

Flyweights: Eric Ortiz in at #9, out- Roberto Vasquez (see 115); note: Ratanapol Vorapin and Wandee Singwangcha are rated #5 and #10 respectively despite their respective 10/3 MD 11 loss to Richard Garcia and 8/11 UD 10 loss to Takahisa Masuda- neither Garcia nor Masuda are ranked (Masuda, of course, wouldn't be- he's Japanese and the IBF does not rank Japanese fighters- seriously, the IBF does not recognize Japan's JBC and the JBC does not recognize the IBF- thus no Japanese boxers are included in the IBF's rankings.)

Junior flyweights: no changes

Mini-flyweights: Milan Melindo in at #11, Sonny Boy Jaro- out of the top 15

The Ring's latest weekly ratings, which cover the period ending October 27, were posted on their website this morning. I've updated TTR's listings of those ratings (see the "Boxing Organizations Rankings" section).

There were changes in only two divisions- the super middleweights and the featherweights.

In the super middleweights, Lucian Bute moved up from #3 to #2, Librado Andrade moved up from #4 to #3, and Anthony Mundine slipped from #2 to #4.

In the featherweights, Jorge Linares was moved up from #5 to #4, Hiroyuki Enoki slipped from #4 to #5, and previously unranked Cristobal Cruz replaced Orlando Salido at #10. It should be noted that when Robert Guerrero announced he was relinquishing his IBF featherweight title and intended to campaign as a junior lightweight, The Ring removed Guerrero from their featherweight ratings. Linares has vacated his WBC featherweight title (which is now held by Oscar Larios) and has announced his intentions to fight at 130. Linares is, in fact, now ranked as the #2 contender for the WBA's vacant super featherweight title. Despite this, The Ring still rates Linares at 126.

The Ring also persists in rating Edwin Valero as a junior lightweight despite his relinquishing of the WBA's title at 130 and his stated intentions to fight at 135. Valero, ranked by the WBC as the #1 lightweight contender, is tentatively slated to fight WBC #2 ranked Antonio Pitalua in December for the WBC's vacant interim lightweight title.

I've finished updating the WBC's and the IBF's ratings. There were too many changes for me to go into now because I have to:
1. update The Ring's ratings (as of November 17)
2. compile and post the standings for TTR Challenge #9 after Week #12 and
3. choose and post the fights for Week #13.

There is one amazing development- the IBF now lists Koki Kameda as the #9 contender in their flyweight rankings......Koki Kameda of JAPAN.....the IBF for the first time in many years actually is including a Japanese fighter in its rankings.

If you want to check out the latest WBC and/or IBF rankings, go to back to the index and scroll down to "BOXING ORGANIZATIONS RANKINGS" and click on it.

Koki Kameda ranked by the IBF.....Holy Shit!!

The WBO's November 2008 were posted on their website this morning. So far, I've updated TTR's listings of the 6 lightest weight classes.

While there were changes in those ratings, the upper echelon of 5 of the 6 divisions remained the same:

105- Champion: Donnie Nietes; Interim Champion: Daniel Reyes; #1 Contender: Milan Melindo
108- Champion: Ivan Calderon; #1 Contender: Brian Viloria
112- Champion: Omar Narvaez; #1 Contender: Rayonta Whitfield
115- Champion: Fernando Montiel; #1 Contender: Pramansak Phosawan (AKA Pramuansak Posuwan)
118- Champion Gerry Penalosa; #1 Contender: Eric Morel (up from #2, replacing the injured Abner Mares who slipped to #2)
122- Champion- Juan Manuel Lopez; #1- Rey Bautista.

The rankings were obviously compiled before this past weekend. On Saturday night, Bautista lost an 8-round, unanimous decision to unranked Heriberto Ruiz. Interestingly enough, this past August 30, Morel, then rated #5, outpointed Ruiz, then the #8 ranked bantamweight, to advance in the rankings.

Tuesday, November 25 edit:

I've updated the rankings for the other 11 divisions. The "upper echelon" of 4 of those divisions have undergone changes:

126- Champion: Steven Luevano; #1 Contender: Ricardo "Rocky" Juarez (who had been #2 at 130- he replaced Monty Meza Clay who slipped to #2)
130- Champion: Nicky Cook; #1 Contender: Roman "Rocky" Martinez
135- Champion: Nate Campbell; #1 Contender: Marco Antonio Barrera (who returned to the ring November 7th with a TKO-4 over unranked Sammy Ventura- 25-20, 1 ND, 20 KOs; Barrera replaces Juan Manuel Marquez who is now ranked #2)
140- Champion: Kendall Holt; #1 Contender: Willy Blain
147- Champion: VACANT (Paul Williams relinquished the title to fight for WBO's interim junior middleweight championship- he's now ranked #2 at 154); #1 contender: Miguel Cotto
154- Champion: Sergiy Dzinziruk; #1 Contender: Oscar De La Hoya
160- Champion: Kelly Pavlik; #1 Contender: Sebastian Zbik
168- Champion: Denis Inkin; #1 Contender: Karoly Balzsay
175- Champion: Zsolt Erdei; #1 Contender: Bernard Hopkins (up from #2; previous #1, Roy Jones, Jr., down to #7)
200- Champion: VACANT; #1 Contender: Johnathon Banks (Note: the title vacancy is expected to be filled December 6 when Banks takes on #3 ranked Enzo Maccarinelli)
HVY- Champion: Wladimir Klitschko; #1 Contender: Alexander Dimitrenko

The WBA's latest monthly ratings were "created" (compiled) on November 24 and were posted on their website November 27.

Evander Holyfield, who was not ranked last month but signed to fight WBA world champion Nicolay Valuev, just happens to be ranked #12 in the WBA's newest ratings. How convenient! The 46-year-old Holyfield has not fought since losing a 12-round, unanimous decision to then WBO champion Sultan Ibragimov on October 13, 2007. Evander's last win, a 10-round, unanimous decision over Lou Savarese, came on June 30, 2007.

The #1 contender's spot at 175 is now "NOT RATED" and last month's #3, Vyacheslav Uzelkov, is now ranked #2. The previous #1 and #2, Jurgen Brahmer and Roy Jones, Jr., are now ranked #5 and #6 respectively.

Gusmyl Perdomo is now the #1 contender for WBA super middleweight champion Mikkel Kessler's title and he has been assigned official challenger status.

Anthony Mundine is now the #1 contender for WBA middleweight champion Felix Sturm's title. He hasn't, as of yet, been granted official challenger status.

The #1 spot at 154 is "NOT RATED" as Shane Mosley has been moved back to the welterweight ratings where he is currently #5.

Marco Antonio Barrera checked in at #3 in the WBA's lightweight ratings. Juan Manuel Marquez is ranked #5.

Last month's WBA world super bantamweight champion Celestino Caballero is now listed as "UNIFIED CHAMPION" (having dethroned IBF champ Steve Molitor in a title unifier) and last month's WBA interim super bantamweight champion Ricardo Cordoba is now listed as "World Champion".

Cristian Mijares, who lost the WBC-WBA unified titles to IBF kingpin Vic Darchinyan (now the "UNDISPUTED CHAMPION" at 115 as per the WBA's ratings) on November 1, is ranked as the WBA's #2 contender at 118.

I've updated TTR's listings of the WBA ratings. If you want to check them out, go to the "BOXING ORGANIZATIONS RANKINGS" section.

9- Juan Carlos Reveco
10- Bert Batawang (new)

Out from ratings as of November 24, 2008:
#10- Rayonta Whitfield
(Note: The Ring never should have included Whitfield in their top ten at 108. He's never fought at less than 111 1/2 as a pro, is the reigning WBO NABO flyweight champion, and is the WBO's #1 flyweight contender. He's scheduled to challenge undefeated WBO flyweight champion Omar Narvaez February 7.)

The Ring currently rates former two-time champions Yutaka Niida and Eagle Den Junlaphan (who they stubbornly continue to list as "Eagle Kyowa") #3 and #5 in their strawweight ratings respectively. Niida has announced his retirement and Junlaphan has not fought in over a year.

The WBO's December 2008 rankings were posted on their website December 11. Our listings of those rankings have been updated.

You can peruse the updated rankings in the "BOXING ORGANIZATIONS RANKINGS" section.

There were a good number of changes. For example in the heavyweight division, David Haye and Chris Arreola moved up to #2 and #3 respectively. The fighters they beat recently, Monte Barrett and Travis Walker, both fell out of the top 15, Barrett from #8, Walker from #6. New to the top 15 are Michael Grant at #9 and Taras Bidenko at #15.

The WBC's and the IBF's latest monthly ratings were posted on their respective websites today. Fun! Fun!

I printed out the WBC's (or at least I thought I did), then printed out the IBF's. Much to my chagrin, only the WBC's for the heavyweight through the featherweight divisions printed out. The remaining pages were blank. I then tried to print out the last few pages and again they came out blank. So, rather than using the "All Ratings" section and decided to use the "By Category" selection and print out the individual divisions I needed. Well, that wasn't going to work because the WBC had only updated the "All Ratings" section. The "By Category" still showed the November 2008 ratings except for the super flyweight division which every month since February has shown the February 2008 ratings. So, I copied down the top 40s and N/A sections for the super featherweights through the strawweights by hand! (Just another reason to hate Sulaiman and his "Council".)

I'm going to start updating TTR's listings of the two organizations' top 15s now. I'll edit in some updates as I go along:

Heavyweights: WBC- Juan Carlos Gomez remains the #1 contender, David Haye up to #4; IBF- Alexander Povetkin remains the #1 contender, Chris Arreola up to #2

Cruiserweights: WBC- Krzysztof Wlodarczyk remains the #1 contender, Francisco Palacios up to #5; IBF- already outdated- still shows Steve Cunningham, who lost to Tomasz Adamek 12/11, as the champion and Adamek as the #1 contender

Light Heavyweights: WBC- Silvio Branco remains the #1 contender, Glen Johnson remains #2, Joe Calzaghe remains #3, Bernard Hopkins slipped to #5 from #4; IBF- Tavoris Cloud remains the #1 contender with #2 "NOT RATED", Clinton Woods up to #3, Antonio Tarver up to #4, and Glen Johnson up to #5

Super Middleweights: WBC: with last month's #1, Carl Froch, now the champion, Jermain Taylor moved up to #1, Andre Dirrell to #2, Andre Ward to #3, and Marcus Johnson to #4; IBF- Vitaly Tsypko remains #2, Sakio Bika up to #4 (#1 "NOT RATED")

Middleweights: WBC- Marco Antonio Rubio remains the #1 contender, Domenico Spada up to #2; IBF- Khoren Gevor up to #3 (#s 1 and #2 "NOT RATED")

Super Welterweights: WBC- Alfredo Angulo up to #1, Ricardo Mayorga up to #2, John Duddy up to #3, Julio Cesar Chavez, Jr. up to #4; Junior Middleweights: IBF- Title- VACANT, James Kirkland up to #3 (#s 1 and 2 "NOT RATED")
