Tyson Fury to 'walk away' from boxing after short-lived comeback flirtation

LONDON -- Tyson Fury has decided to "walk away" from boxing, only three days after saying he was returning to the sport.

Fury turned 34 on Friday and posted a message on social media saying: "Massive thanks to everyone who had an input in my career over the years & after long hard conversations (I've finally) decided to walk away & on my 34th birthday I say Bon voyage."

That seemingly puts Fury back into retirement, after he announced on Tuesday that he was returning to boxing in order to set up a fight against Derek Chisora, a fellow Briton whom he beat twice early in his career.

That announcement had sparked speculation that Fury, the reigning WBC heavyweight champion, was targeting a possible unification bout against the winner between Oleksandr Usyk, the reigning WBA, IBF and WBO titleholder, and Anthony Joshua, who are fighting on Aug. 20 in Saudi Arabia.

Fury did not give a reason for his apparent change of heart.

The undefeated Fury initially said after his win over Dillian Whyte at Wembley Stadium in April that he was retiring from the sport.
The fighters he's beaten aren't even household names in their own household.

"Never shall innocent blood be shed. Yet the blood of the wicked shall flow like a river. The three shall spread their blackened wings and be the vengeful striking hammer of god."

Fury is from a criminal tradition. Lying and grifting comes naturally. If he is honestly retiring, then congratulations and good luck to him.

The moment a fighter publically claims he is retired, the Ring magazine and any alphabet belt should be declared vacant.

Retired as in I’m not fighting anyone chosen for me by a sanctioning body or anyone else. Retired like Mayweather was retired, retired till a time of his choosing

Pretty much what Cagiva said....
“Boxing right now is dying with its superstar Muhammad Ali fighting competitors not worthy to try for his crown.”

I agree with the "Mayweather" retirement. I kinda feel like he does not want to fight Usyk and is doing his re-retirement nonsense.

I think Usyk is a bad match up for him IMO.

It is very odd that that the big names in boxing now a days will try to end their careers without fighting their rivals in their primes. Mayweather-Pac, Hopkins-RJJ (rematch), Khan-Brook.

Very odd indeed, but it's a different generation.

Add Abe not wanting to fight Kelly to the list
