Wish there'd be fewer immediate rematches and more moving on to the biggest fight

I gather this thing with Whyte/Fury threw a wrench in Usyk/Fury. April still a ways away.

Anyone think Joshua Wins Rematch with Usyk?
I think a More Aggressive Joshua gets knocked out this time around....he would have been Stopped in the 13th round IMO had it been a old School 15 round fight

Re: Anyone think Joshua Wins Rematch with Usyk?
I got Usyk again. He's comfortable at the weight and Joshua is so unfocused with the trainer tour, the step aside money, and all the mental demons Usyk and Ruiz have created.
Re: Anyone think Joshua Wins Rematch with Usyk?
I think Joshua could and should win the fight with a decent gameplan.. he’s just not the type of fighter that has the head to stick to one that might get him touched up..
He could easily rough Usyk up if he decided to get in close, wrestle him, hold and hit and make it ugly… he’d have to close the distance and potentially take punishment to do so, so he’s not gonna want to
I don’t know what happens but leaning towards him losing

Joshua is a prime example of a fighter who dosen't know how to use his size advantage. He'd rather circle the ring.
Eddie Reynoso has expressed interest in training Joshua. Hope joshua considers it.

Re: Anyone think Joshua Wins Rematch with Usyk?
I don't.
Joshua, late to the game of boxing, is too mechanical. Has to think too much in the ring as opposed to Usyk, who just flows. Usyk's work rate and endurance, hand speed, varying combinations and heavyweight pop, that we know can hurt big AJ, are just too much. I think it's easier for the Ukranian talent this time out. He's that type of special fighter.
Joshua needs to scrap any idea of outboxing Usyk and let his offense become his defense and sell out early. Try to land something and follow it up. That's his only chance. The more he thinks in the ring, the more likely he walks into something he doesn't see or the rounds and damage pile up against him. Honestly, he needs a Kronk trainer. Prediction?

Re: Anyone think Joshua Wins Rematch with Usyk?
Definitely I think he could win it. For sure though, he can’t afford to fall behind again and have to play catch-up. In the first fight he came out too slow and was down after 4. There was too much energy expended catching up. It would have taken a lot less energy if he had done just a little more early and taken some of the close rounds instead of losing them nearly uncontested. He was even after 8 but too exhausted to win a single round after that. I think because of how weak Joshua looked late, it’s easy to forget how strong he looked in the middle rounds.
50/50 fight to me.

Usyk vs Joshua 2: Anthony Joshua to be trained by Robert Garcia for rematch, Rob McCracken out
https://www.badlefthook.com/2022/5/30/2 ... -news-2022
Anthony Joshua has ended months of speculation about getting a new lead trainer, it seems, as ESPN are reporting that Robert Garcia will be the new chief second for AJ ahead of his planned July rematch with Oleksandr Usyk.
The report also says that Rob McCracken, Joshua’s longtime lead trainer, is “no longer part of (the) team,” having been in Joshua’s corner for the gold medal at London 2012 and every fight as a professional.
After Joshua’s upset loss to Usyk last year at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, chatter about a new trainer kicked up pretty fast, aided by AJ going on sort of a U.S. tour and visiting with different trainers. After those reports spread, Joshua said then that McCracken would still be part of the team, but that appears — for now — to not be the case.
Garcia is, of course, a well-known and highly-respected trainer, and will be going to England to work with AJ, which is probably a good idea considering Garcia’s California gym is wildly crowded with fighters and Joshua will need his full attention if a partnership is going to prove fruitful.
Usyk (19-0, 13 KO) and Joshua (24-2, 22 KO) are tentatively planned to fight on July 23. Reports have been it will take place in the Middle East, and the most likely landing spot at the moment seems to be Jeddah, Saudi Arabia.
Has AJ made the right choice? Most felt he needed a new trainer, but is Garcia the right guy?

The fighters he's beaten aren't even household names in their own household.

Weird as Robert García has never trained a HW before, especially in the world class level. Who really trains HWs anyways? The division was dead for so long there really isn’t any household names. AJ switching trainer to trainer doesn’t look good either.

The only real advice Garcia could give AJ, is to fight like the bigger man. It probably won't make a difference, but it sure beats the strategy of trying to fight from the outside, and outbox one of the best technical boxers on the planet.

Oleksandr Usyk vs. Anthony Joshua rematch announced for August 20th
https://www.bloodyelbow.com/2022/6/20/2 ... oxing-news
The rematch between Oleksandr Usyk and Anthony Joshua finally has a date and venue.
Matchroom Boxing announced on Sunday that the two heavyweights will meet again on August 20th at the Jeddah Super Dome in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia. Joshua previously fought in a makeshift stadium in Diriyah back in 2019, when he beat Andy Ruiz in their rematch.
Ukraine’s Usyk (19-0, 13 KOs) is without a doubt one of the top pound-for-pound boxers in the world. The 2012 Olympic gold medalist became the undisputed cruiserweight champion in 2018 after defeating Murat Gassiev, then jumped to heavyweight in 2019 after defending all of those cruiserweight belts against Tony Bellew. Wins over Chazz Witherspoon and Dereck Chisora soon followed, and as has been a theme of his throughout his career, won in enemy territory against Joshua by unanimous decision in front of 65,000 fans in London.
Joshua (24-2, 22 KOs) also won gold at the 2012 Olympics, and by 2016 he was the IBF heavyweight champion after easily dispatching Charles Martin. His classic against Wladimir Klitschko was almost like a passing of the torch in the division. In 2019 he was the overwhelming favorite to beat short notice replacement Andy Ruiz, but lost by knockout in his US debut and also his IBF, WBA, and WBO titles. As mentioned earlier he regained them in the rematch, defended those belts by TKO over Kubrat Pulev, but ceded them to Usyk shortly thereafter.
As an aside, Joshua has left Sky Sports and agreed to an exclusive deal with DAZN, which means that AJ’s UK rights have shifted to DAZN for the long-term. There’s no word yet on the broadcast details for this one.
August 20th will be a busy day for combat sports, as later that evening will be UFC 278: Usman vs. Edwards 2 from Salt Lake City, Utah.

This one will most likely be a footwork clinic by Usyk with quick combos and move tactics.

I favor Usyk again, but AJ does have a punchers chance. AJ has size and power, but him trying to box with Usyk simply will not work. I think we'll see a more competitive AJ, but that will require him being more aggressive and getting in the way of Usyks power. I hope AJ wins somehow, to see him fight Fury. win or lose, I wanna see the Fury fight with AJ, and obviously with Usyk too.
Re: Oleksandr Usyk vs. Anthony Joshua rematch announced for August 20th
Usyk knocks him out this time around.
Re: Oleksandr Usyk vs. Anthony Joshua rematch announced for August 20th
Their Promo for this fight was bad ass.
Re: Oleksandr Usyk vs. Anthony Joshua rematch announced for August 20th
DAZN just invested a LOT in Joshua. It will be interesting to see how this one goes.
