This could be a really good tournament with 2 possible promotions to Yokozuna, the return of Hakuho, and the return of Ura to the top tournament level as long as he can stay healthy.

All the big boys get a W on the opening day, and Ura does too.

I knew Terunofuji could potentially reach Yokozuna with a great Tournament here, but who else is potentially up for it? Takakeisho I guess?

Yes, it’s a longer shot but if he wins he may make it due to the second place finish last tourney.

Hey a question here Prime. Is it possible to skip a rank in Sumo? Like say a Maegashira 1 has a tremendous 15-0 Tournament, is it possible he could skip right over Komusubi to Sekiwake? Just wondering.

Enho had a rough bout today in the Juryo division. His opponent kept trying to uppercut/slap the taste out of his mouth lol.

I don’t believe you can, if you could Terunofuji would have been made a Yokozuna after winning the 2 tournaments in a row. He wasn’t promoted because he wasn’t an Ozeki in the March basho. He got the Ozek8 rank after it.

Even though there are 3 guys currently tied with 'em at 3-0 this Tournamentis all about Terunofuji and Hakuho. I can't wait to see them finally face off.

Takakeisho is out due to a Herniated Disc in his Neck I believe. That's a shame.

Looks like a minimum of 4 weeks he’ll be out. Takayasu is back for day 3 after his back problems.

Promotions to komusubi and sekiwake are done to fill vacancies - there are always 2 spots at each rank to be filled. So if a maegashira gets a strong result, it's possible for them to skip komusubi and be promoted straight to sekiwake if no one else has the result to fill the opening -let's say everyone ranked ahead of them had a losing record. Takanosho, for example, was promoted straight from maegashira to sekiwake, and has never been a komusubi.

For ozeki and yokozuna, it's different. You have to show outstanding success over several tournaments, and promotion to the rank isn't done just to fill vacancies.

And then there were 2. Teru and Hakuho are now the only remaining undefeated Rikishi in the Top division.

Abi who had went unbeaten in 2 prior tournaments below Juryo thus far is 5-0 in Juryo as well so he's one to keep an eye on

Katsukoshi after 8 days for the big 2.

Abi took his 1st loss today in Juryo.

Looks like Enho just can't get it done more.

At the rate he's going, he won't even be in Juryo much longer
