RYAN GARCIA down once but got the KO vs CAMPBELL in USA

Post by Primetyme199 »

https://www.boxingscene.com/dazn-launch ... 25--152798

DAZN’s delayed launch in 200-plus countries and territories has been rescheduled for December 1.

The streaming service initially intended for this expansion to take place early in May, but it was pushed back due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The new launch date for its global app, which was announced Wednesday morning, will occur in time for DAZN to be the sole provider in the United Kingdom of the Ryan Garcia-Luke Campbell fight December 5.

The 22-year-old Garcia (20-0, 17 KOs), a popular American lightweight contender, will take a significant step up in class when he encounters England’s Campbell (20-3, 16 KOs) in a 12-round fight for the WBC interim lightweight title. A site for their 135-pound championship match hasn’t been announced, but Garcia-Campbell is expected to take place at Fantasy Springs Resort Casino in Indio, California.

Garcia-Campbell will start at approximately midnight in the UK (7 p.m. ET; 4 p.m. PT).

That start time will better accommodate British boxing fans, who often must watch cards from the United States in the wee hours of the morning. Streaming Garcia-Campbell at that time also will avoid any conflict with the FOX Sports Pay-Per-View portion of the Errol Spence Jr.-Danny Garcia card that night at AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas.

DAZN also will stream the Anthony Joshua-Kubrat Pulev heavyweight title fight December 12 in the United States and most of its other markets. Sky Sports has the rights to broadcast Joshua-Pulev in the UK, however, and will offer it through its pay-per-view division, Sky Sports Box Office.

England’s Joshua (23-1, 21 KOs) will defend his IBF, IBO, WBA and WBO titles against Bulgaria’s Pulev (28-1, 14 KOs) at O2 Arena in London. Joshua-Pulev also will begin at about midnight in the UK (7 p.m. ET; 4 p.m. PT).

The initial price point for the new markets in which DAZN will become available December 1 will be £1.99 per month or less, or roughly $2.60 per month or less. The subscription cost for DAZN in the U.S. remains $99.99 for one year, which would be billed in one payment, or $19.99 per month.

“From the UK to Mexico to Australia, we’ve seen an encouraging level of interest in our key events since first launching in 2016,” Joseph Markowski, DAZN’s executive vice president, said in a press release issued Wednesday. “We’re looking forward to introducing the DAZN platform around the world this December with an exciting schedule of fights.”

DAZN, backed by billionaire majority owner Len Blavatnik, made an immediate impact in boxing after announcing its launch in the United States in May 2018, most notably by signing middleweight rivals Canelo Alvarez and Gennadiy Golovkin to respective nine-figure contracts. Mexico’s Alvarez is embroiled in a legal dispute with DAZN and Golden Boy Promotions regarding how much he will be paid for the remainder of an 11-fight contract he signed in October 2018 that could become worth as much as $365 million.

AM I reading this correctly that It's only going to cost $2.60 or less a month but the people in the US have to pay $19.99 a month? That won't go over to well with their US subscribers.

At $99 a year, is there a better deal somewhere? I signed up before the last Vergil Ortiz fight and I've not regretted it.

De La Hoya Plans To Stage Garcia-Campbell On Cancun Beach or Near Aztec Pyramids

Post by Primetyme199 »

https://www.boxingscene.com/de-la-hoya- ... ds--153512

Golden Boy Promotions CEO Oscar De La Hoya is planning an exotic location to host his company’s next event, which is scheduled to be headlined by rising lightweight star Ryan Garcia taking on Luke Campbell for a vacant interim world title.

They are due to fight on Jan. 2 in the main event of a DAZN-streamed card after the bout initially had been scheduled to take place on Dec. 5 at the Fantasy Springs Resort Casino in Indio, California, but postponed earlier this month when it was disclosed that Campbell had tested positive for Covid-19 and was unable train.

Now that Campbell is OK and back in training the fight has been rescheduled, and while De La Hoya and his team enjoy a strong relationship with Fantasy Springs, which has long been its go-to site, De La Hoya has other ideas for Garcia-Campbell. He wants to stage the event on a Mexican beach or in front of pyramids.

“I haven’t announced the location but starting in the new year obviously things are different now and we’ve got to think about and promote the non-traditional way because we don’t have fans (able to attend most events),” De La Hoya told BoxingScene on Tuesday. “Maybe you can have 20 percent (capacity of an arena with) fans in Texas so, you know, I have to start thinking way outside the box and I want to create events. I want to create events that are going to make news, events that are going to be promoted differently.”

That is where the site comes in for Garcia-Campbell, De La Hoya said.

“The venue is going to be now very significant, meaning I want people who are watching on TV, who are watching on a digital platform, to be impressed by where the event is being staged at.

“With Ryan Garcia, I’m looking at places in Cancun and staging something maybe outdoors on the beach or staging something in front of the Aztec pyramids... which has never been done.

“So, it’s very significant. Everything that’s happened with the pandemic, it’s put us in a position where we have to be on our toes and think differently as a promoter and think outside the box. So, it’s re-motivated me to really promote a fighter and make him a bigger star than what he is.”

So what are the chances that Garcia-Campbell really does wind up taking place outside on beach in Cancun or in front of the picturesque backdrop of the Aztec pyramids?

“We’re exploring it and it’s highly probable that we go there,” De La Hoya said.

When Matchroom Boxing promoter Eddie Hearn was able to bring his company’s events back with a four-week series of cards this past summer he also wanted an interesting site and wound up staging his “Fight Camp” shows at Matchroom’s headquarters in Brentwood, England – in the massive garden with the estate’s mansion as the backdrop.

De La Hoya wants a similarly intriguing venue for Garcia.

“Ryan is a fighter who deserves to be in these types of events that are different,” De La Hoya said. “You don’t want to do the same venue, going to (Las) Vegas or to Texas or fighting at Fantasy Springs Casino. You want to be part of history and this would be historical, mix it up a little bit. I never fought with an Azteca pyramid as my backdrop.”

If Garcia (20-0, 17 KOs) defeats two-time world title challenger Campbell (20-3, 16 KOs), 32, a southpaw from England and a 2012 Olympic gold medalist, De La Hoya said it will be the start of what he hopes is a big 2021 for the 22-year-old from Victorville, California.

“I have huge plans for Ryan Garcia; 2021 we most definitely want to get him in there with the top guys,” De La Hoya said. “He’s been talking a lot about (lightweight and junior lightweight titlist) Gervonta ‘Tank’ Davis, which I love the fight. I would make that fight in a heartbeat, but first things first. Luke Campbell is no walk in the park.”
The fighters he's beaten aren't even household names in their own household.

What a shitty under card for it. Oscar is a such a cheap skate.

You know Garcia going to bail for Hearn like Canelo did. Already working with the same trainer.

Campbell gets KTFO. A tradition unlike any other, Brit fighter comes to the states to get a beatdown payday

If Ryan is as good as he looks he wins this impressively. If somehow he goes down in flames, Oscar will be on suicide watch.

Teofimo Lopez on Garcia/Cambell:
I think it’s a great matchup for both guys,” Lopez told BoxingScene.com recently. “And it’s crazy to say that because Luke Campbell is a veteran in the game, and Ryan Garcia is on his way up. But that’s the same thing they said about me – that I was on my way up. But we’re on a whole different level of skills, when it comes to me and Ryan. But I think it’s a great matchup. Luke Campbell has all the abilities to beat Ryan Garcia and, if not, frustrate him.

“My only thing, and that goes for everybody, is that since [Campbell is a] southpaw, the check hook is right there for Ryan all day. And Ryan’s very good at his short hooks, long hooks, awkward hooks, and I think that might change the whole momentum of the fight for Luke Campbell. And I think it may give Ryan Garcia the win. However, we want Ryan Garcia to win. We want him to do good. We want him to look great against Luke Campbell because it helps us.”

A lot of these older guys, a good amount of them don’t got the heart,” Lopez said. “I went to Loma and I snatched his heart, like a little kid, and I said, ‘Give me your sh-t.’ And I took that motherf-cker’s heart and I ate it right in front of him. And he ain’t like it. You’ve gotta have heart. You’ve gotta have something and I don’t think Luke has that heart. That’s the thing that could give Ryan Garcia the knockout. I think he’ll frustrate Ryan, but there’s a high chance Ryan knocks him out.”

Solid scrap good step up in competition for ryan. Kid looks like he has all the tools lets see how he does against a solid vet. Id love to see him finish campbell with one of those beautiful short hooks hes slept dudes with before and set up a big fight with tank

Garcia got a little dog in him. Got his shit rocked and rebounded to get a strong win. Hes definitely offensively gifted but his D looked suspect against the southpaw

Ryan Garcia is like a slightly less skilled Amir Khan with a better chin. I guess that's the best way I can put it.

He got dropped by a monster punch and I thought he was just gonna be jello legs around the ring after but he got up, got composed, and got back to work.

I don't think he beats Tank but he's definitely got the firepower to put him down.

Nice job fighting back for the win after getting dropped hard

He called out Tank but I think Davis would destroy him...Garcia leaves his chin hanging out there and it's not like Campbell punches anything like Davis.

Garcia gets blasted by Tank and Teo, and gets dismantled by Haney. Not really impressed at all by Garcia. Maybe it's the annoying hype train that surrounds him.

Not sure how Tank would fare. Anyone that has to come at Ryan is going to treading on dangerous ground. That left puts anyone's lights out and the right isn't too bad either. Sure, Ryan's head is an easy target but getting in range might be a difficult proposition for someone who is 5'5". Tank is no Manny Pacquiao.

Garcia gives up his height a lot (and his chin) and Tank has way more power and speed than the likes of Campbell

I think Ryan has the kind of power to rival Tank, but Ryan doesn't fight very tall and that would be his undoing

Showed he’s a tough kid...

Tank would be a real test. I don’t think he beats Tank, but I wouldn’t be shocked if he did.
