CANELO stopped YILDIRIM Saturday
https://www.boxingscene.com/dazn-wont-a ... nt--151066
DAZN’s decision-makers weren’t interested in paying even a discounted rights fee to stream a Canelo Alvarez-Anthony Dirrell fight.
They have no intention of footing the bill for Alvarez to fight someone Dirrell defeated, either.
BoxingScene.com has learned DAZN won’t approve an Alvarez-Avni Yildirim fight next for the Mexican superstar. The WBC’s board of governors ordered an Alvarez-Yildirim bout Tuesday for its vacant super middleweight title.
As of Wednesday afternoon, Golden Boy, which promotes Alvarez, had not proposed an Alvarez-Yildirim fight to DAZN. Nevertheless, Alvarez/Golden Boy and DAZN remain at an impasse regarding who Alvarez will face next and how much money the four-division champion will be paid for that bout.
The 30-year-old Alvarez (53-1-2, 36 KOs) had hoped to return to the ring September 12. He won’t fight that night because that date is just three weeks from Saturday, and he doesn’t have an opponent.
DAZN, with which Alvarez and Golden Boy have an exclusive deal, is open to Alvarez fighting sometime in October or November if they can come to an agreement on a suitable opponent and license fee. Alvarez would be heavily favored to defeat Yildirim, whose third-round knockout defeat to Chris Eubank Jr. in October 2017 is among the reasons DAZN isn’t interested in paying Alvarez to fight him.
Alvarez has not fought since November 2, when he knocked out Sergey Kovalev in the 11th round to win the WBO light heavyweight title at MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas.
DAZN most recently offered for Alvarez’s next fight approximately half of the $40 million package Alvarez’s side has been paid for each of his past two bouts, victories over Kovalev and Daniel Jacobs that DAZN financed as part of an 11-fight deal the streaming service struck with Alvarez and Golden Boy in October 2018. Alvarez, Golden Boy, Alvarez’s opponents and those opponents’ handlers are paid out of the license fees DAZN pays per fight.
DAZN spent freely to make an immediate impact in the U.S. market upon entering the boxing business two years ago. It has recalibrated its financial approach since it began streaming boxing again last month.
An unfazed Alvarez still expects to be paid the full amounts per fight stipulated in his contract.
DAZN executives John Skipper and Joe Markowski have stressed, however, the need for Golden Boy and Alvarez to deliver what DAZN considers premium events if DAZN is to pay the $40 million per fight Alvarez and Golden Boy expect from their agreement. They don’t consider Yildirim, Dirrell or some other boxers Golden Boy has proposed to be premium opponents.
Gennadiy Golovkin is the premium opponent DAZN most wants to match against Alvarez.
Their third fight won’t happen next because Kazakhstan’s Golovkin (40-1-1, 35 KOs) has a contract to make a mandatory defense of his IBF middleweight title against Poland’s Kamil Szeremeta (21-0, 5 KOs). The Golovkin-Szeremeta match has not yet been scheduled.
Callum Smith is a possible opponent DAZN has approved for Alvarez’s next bout, but not for the $40 million package Alvarez expects. England’s Smith (27-0, 19 KOs) owns the WBA super middleweight title.
Alvarez was supposed to challenge England’s Billy Joe Saunders for the unbeaten Brit’s WBO super middleweight title May 2 at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas. That event was canceled due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Alvarez is free to find another opponent to box next because neither he nor Saunders (29-0, 14 KOs) had signed contracts for their fight. Saunders removed himself from consideration to battle Alvarez on September 12.
The WBC super middleweight title is vacant because former champion David Benavidez came in 2¾ pounds overweight Friday for what was supposed to be an optional title defense against Alexis Angulo on Saturday night. Phoenix’s Benavidez (23-0, 20 KOs) was stripped of that title before he beat Colombia’s Angulo (26-2, 22 KOs) by technical knockout following 10 largely lopsided rounds at Mohegan Sun Arena in Uncasville, Connecticut.
Turkey’s Yildirim (21-2, 12 KOs) is the WBC’s mandatory challenger and would’ve battled Benavidez next had he retained his title by beating Angulo. Dirrell (33-2-1, 24 KOs) edged Yildirim by technical split decision to win the then-vacant WBC super middleweight title in February 2019.
Alvarez is the WBC’s “franchise” middleweight champion, an unusual designation that affords him the flexibility to compete in different weight classes while officially maintaining his status as a WBC 160-pound champion.

Canelo vs. Yildirim WBC Purse Bid Postponed To October 6
https://www.boxingscene.com/canelo-vs-y ... -6--151873
Saul ‘Canelo’ Alvarez and Avni Yildirim have two more weeks to discuss a fight which nobody seems to want.
The two boxers are in contention for the vacant World Boxing Council (WBC) super middleweight title, with such a fight heading to a purse bid hearing to determine promotional rights for the contest. The session was due to take place September 21, only for the Mexico City-based sanctioning body to push back the date to October 6.
“The WBC is officially confirming the postponement of the purse offer ceremony for the Saul “Canelo” Alvarez vs Avni Yildirim fight for the vacant WBC Super Middleweight championship,” confirmed the WBC in a statement on Sunday evening. “The new date has been set for Tuesday October 6 and will be conducted on an open video conference.”
The bout was officially ordered on August 18, following approval from the WBC Board of Governors who voted 36-1 in favor of Guadalajara’s Alvarez (53-1-2, 36KOs) being permitted to challenge for the now-vacant title. The ruling came four days after the belt’s previous claimant, David Benavidez was stripped of his title status for missing weight on August 14, one day prior to stopping Alexis Angulo in 10 one-sided rounds.
Istanbul’s Yildirim (21-2, 12KOs) was due a mandatory title shot heading into the night, expecting to face Benavidez later this year. Instead, he was ordered to enter talks with Alvarez, who was permitted a place in line due to his status as WBC “Franchise” champion which was bestowed upon him last June.
Negotiations never evolved past preliminary discussion by the time the deadline arrived, prompting the WBC to call for a purse bid hearing.
In that time, Alvarez—who has claimed championships at 154-, 160- and 175-pounds—has filed a multi-million dollar lawsuit versus Golden Boy Promotions, company founder and chairman Oscar de la Hoya and sports-streaming service DAZN-USA. The case was conditionally rejected though with room for an amended filing with a September 28 deadline.
Alvarez is claiming damages in excess of $280 million—the remaining amount of the existing contract between Golden Boy Promotions and DAZN-USA for his in-ring services as part of an 11-fight, $365 million pact signed in October 2018.
Needless to say, any fight involving the global superstar is problematic for the time being.
Prior to the lawsuit, DAZN-USA was adamant in its disinterest in financing a fight between Alvarez and Yildirim. That stance could change, especially considering some of the bouts they plan to greenlight in the coming months. Of course, it would also require some form of resolution between Alvarez and Golden Boy Promotions, the latter whom for the time being remains his promoter of record.
Alvarez has not fought since an 11th round knockout of Sergey Kovalev to claim the WBO light heavyweight title last November in Las Vegas. His reign lasted all of 45 days, vacating the title upon his quest to capture a genuine title at super middleweight—having won a secondary version in a 3rd round knockout of Rocky Fielding in December 2018.
Yildirim has been out of the ring since a technical decision loss to Anthony Dirrell in their vacant WBC super middleweight title fight last February. The disputed nature in which the fight ended warranted a rematch, only for the WBC to permit Dirrell to first face Benavidez who was already owed a shot at regaining the title he relinquished after testing positive for cocaine in September 2018.
Benavidez stopped Dirrell in the 9th round of their title fight last September, with Yildirim due a shot at the winner. Plans for a Benavidez-Yilidirim clash earlier this year fell through when Yildirim suffered an elbow injury. Benavidez was granted an optional title defense versus Angulo which was scheduled to take place in his Phoenix hometown this past April, only for the event to get shut down due to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic.
The bout was rescheduled for August 15, only for Benavidez to miss weight by more than three pounds, thus the title becoming available.
Should the ordered Alvarez-Yildirim title fight make it to a purse bid, it will be made available to the highest bidder in a session which will be held via Zoom conference call.

The victim is wide open for a one hitter quitter, counter uppercut as he hangs his head way over that lead leg when he throws his slow power. Interestingly enough the name Yildrim is turkish for "hit me with the uppercut".

Re: CANELO VS YILDIRIM SATURDAY
Canelo shows the world how it's done. 3 fights in 5 months. One mandatory book ended by two dangerous unifications. Of course a loss or injury could derail those plans.
Re: CANELO VS YILDIRIM SATURDAY
He hasn't fought more than 2x in a calendar year in almost a decade, good to see him getting such a weak opponent out of the way quick though.

People will hate on the yildrim fight, but it is the mandatory and when you fight 3 times in 5 months they cant all be world beaters

Jerry Forrest gets dropped in each of the first 3 rounds, hurt in the 4th, but still manages to come back and earn a draw vs Zhang
Re: CANELO VS YILDIRIM SATURDAY
As usual, we get a ridiculous delay before the main event. And DAZN forces idiotic Ak and Barak and nauseating Ryan Garcia on us. It's like they want to turn people off.
.........
And after an eternity of waiting, we get three anthems.

What a dud of a fight(sigh)....
Re: CANELO VS YILDIRIM SATURDAY
Not like we should not have expected that but I still feel disappointed
I’ve seen heavy bags with more determination than Yildrim brought to the fight.

good thing there was a KD otherwise I think lots of mainstream would be disappointed. I think it was a lead hand clinic... mixed in with uppercuts...
He has some innovative combos like the straight left to the liver and then the HUGE uppercut...

Re: CANELO stopped YILDIRIM Saturday
Social medias are the sewages of the internet... but you can sometimes get a feel of what if the substance behind the crap... I think the mainstream are sour a little about Canelo... Def a Canelo wins, boxing loses situation.
I think it was a dominating performance by Canelo who did everything he had to do... even throw out dudes in the ring he didn't want there lol

Good one, Stunnamanestunna 2.0 wrote: ↑Sat Feb 27, 2021 11:06 pm Canelo showing why he's the the best fighter in Europe.
I don't see Saunders troubling ol Cinnamon at all next up either. Doesn't have the mental discipline or power to do so while Canelo has improved a lot since Lara. Plants a natural, healthier super middle weight version of Saunders, but his lack of quality opponents or fights on a grand stage could leave him frozen.
At 168, the opponent that could push him back with the jab and throw with and counter Canelo's own shots is David Benavidez for me. That fight could look just like the Golovkin scraps. Problem is it's looks like the table is set with Saunders and then either Plant and Golovkin dependent upon what type of split Plant will accept. Benavidez was just named WBC #1 post fight, so there's some type of hope there.
Outside the weight class I'd like to see what Charlo, Andrade or Bivol look like at 168 lbs and line 'em up.
