World Champ with the worse technique?
World Champ with the worse technique?
Wilder comes to mind although he def improved and polished lately...
How about Carlos Maussa... was just redoing the gif of his win vs Vivian Harris and man that was terrible technique... slow, akward punches... weird archs to his punches... almost like he is aiming to hit behind the head...

Foreman was technically crude, lots of wild, wide swings

Wilder first to come to mind.....I recall Tomas Rojas having a very wired way about him.....

RJJ had bad technique, but in his prime his freaky athleticism masked it.
Re: World Champ with the worse technique?
I’d say Jones Jr. used unorthodox tactics that became less effective when he slowed down while also allowing him to put on more impressive performances than he would have if he’d been more conventional, but that his technique itself was fine and nobody was completely out boxing him or making him look silly at any point. There was nothing crude or clumsy looking about what he was doing.
Ali also used unorthodox tactics that bothered traditionalists but had fine technique.
Wilder’s probably the modern champion with the worst technique I’ve seen from head to toes. Sam Peter was pretty bad as well.

Anybody I would've named you guys have named already.
Wilder came to mind quickly. Maussa I probably wouldn't have thought to say, but yeah he was sloppy as hell. Mayorga was wild as could be.
Peter was definitely sloppy as well.

Older fighter here, but Donny Lalonde was as sloppy as they get. He could shoot a straight right hand, like Wilder and it brought him success in winning the vacant WBC light heavyweight title knocking out Eddie "Wild Cat" Davis in the 2nd and defending his title with a 5th round knockout of Leslie "The Tiger" Stewart. Lalonde sure knew how to tame the cats didn't he. Lalonde even looked pretty good for the 1st four rounds against SRL, but seemed to tire dramatically after the 4th round. Unlike Hearns, Lalonde wasn't really able to line up a solid straight right against SRL, the punch he dropped SRL with was a glancing blow. After 4th though Lalonde looked awful, tripping over his own feet and I'm sure part of that had to be because he was weight drained.
When Lalonde fought Bobby Czyz, he looked incredibly sloppy throughout the whole fight, maybe it was because Lalonde was put on queer street in the first round. Lalonde himself said that the only punch he felt was harder from Willie "Sandman" Edwards when he stopped Lalonde in the 9th. Lalonde claimed that Sandman hit him with brass knuckles.

I was never really impressed with Gianfranco Rosi‘s technique.
The fighters he's beaten aren't even household names in their own household.

He is one fighter who improved his techique, but he was sloppy and that showed against a feeble looking Eric Morales.
