Fantasy Boxing Matchup: Vasiliy Lomachenko vs Juan Manuel Marquez

Post by Primetyme199 »

Two highly skilled champions, each bringing something different to the table.

Just so there’s no confusion, here’s the layout: 130 pounds, 12 rounds.

Who wins between Loma and JMM?
The fighters he's beaten aren't even household names in their own household.

You know for all of Pacquiao's speed, fast feet and movement and very good power he struggle with JMM because styles make fights. I think JMM's style and counter punching would give Loma problems. I could see either guy walking about with a very close decision win. How about Loma vs Pac at 130, which I believe was Loma's top weight he should be fighting at. Too bad we never got to see Morales vs JMM at 130 and that's another dream match-up.

Yeah Pac v Loma at 130 is another tough one, but I’d have to lean Pac there.

JMM vs Loma? I don’t even know where to start lol

For sure. He got dropped regularly but never stopped, and he was in there with bigger hitters than Loma.

Marquez would probably win a competitive decision. I think with their styles it might not actually be that good of a fight.

i think the pivots and side/turning movement of Lomachenko might be the key to him avoiding many of JMM counters and leading him to a DEC win.....but this would be a fascinating fight

Lomachenko might just have the speed and movement to avoid Marquez's more powerful counters. Marquez shines best against come forward aggressors who give him plenty of countering opportunities. While Lomachenko certainly doesn't shy away from attacking, he doesn't just stand right in front of you, and has some of the greatest footwork and movement I've ever seen.

I think Marquez would have hell catching up to him with his best shots, and while he'd certainly have his moments I don't think he'd have enough of 'em to get the win.

I think Lomachenko would win a fairly clear decision against Marquez. I think its a bad style matchup for Marquez.

The matchup probably favors Marquez a little more the heavier they are. I think he'd perform better if it's the Lightweight versions of him and Loma than it if were the Featherweight versions of them.

I find this a tough one.

JMM would figure Loma out, but would he figure him out in time to get a decision?

I am going to lean JMM, but not for a solid reason. I watched him get blitzed by Pac and then salvage a legit draw out of what started out as an annihilation. Floyd rope-a-doped him on the scale, but it wasn't that hard for him to outbox JMM - so that keeps nagging at me and almost would have me say that Loma would take him.

But nah... who needs logic? JMM by split decision.

Loma gives you chances. Hes not as fast as Pacquiao or as powerful.

Manny had more speed and power for sure, though could be a bit wild and messy at 130. I think there would be fewer offensive opportunities for Marquez vs Loma, but he also wouldn't have the same intensity of firepower coming back at him. It would be a much quieter fight I think.

Marquez for me. He's faced way tougher opposition. Loma hasn't been in enough wars for me to me to pick him over a proven warrior.

I think Pavlik would've outworked and backed up Abe enough for a decision

El Dinamita in a fight that could go either way. Loma is a pressure fighter who can box and has some of the best footwork ever. BUt in the end he is a pressure fighter. He definitely has a high enough boxing IQ to find a path to victory over Juan al la Timmy and probability of that occurance rises as the weight of this hypothetical scrap lowers. At 135 I like Juan. If Linares can time him with a straight right, so can Juan, a true counter puncher who stays calmer than almost anyone in the storm. In the fights referenced both Floyd and Timmy forced Juan to play the role of aggressor through patience and skill and move out of his comfort zone as a counter puncher. Loma doesn't have the physical attributes to do what those 2 were able, while he does possess the skill. Still it's the style clash that speaks to me and it says El Dinamita in a fight I think would entertain more than others. Loma would lead.

I am picking Marquez to win 2 out of 3 fights in a great close trilogy.
