Wilder says he'd take $10m step aside for Fury-AJ

Post by Tocsin »

Thoughts? Should he do it if offered? I imagine a fight as big as Fury-AJ would involve its own rematch clauses.

You got a source?

I searched and found this old ass article from May 12 of 2012 concerning Wilder stepping aside for Wlad, but nothing else but forum idiocy and articles speculating on what Deontay should do.

10 million is a lot but he'd be foolish to take much less. If he stepped aside now he might never see another shot at the title or another big payday for that matter. He's 35 years old and no cinch to avoid taking another loss while he waits.

I think he should get more honestly. But if that's the number he wants and it gets offered, I don't have an issue.

Wilder Still seems to think he is unbeatable.....so probably just sees this as a way to make a little more money on the side...

What type of number do you think he should get?

It is better worded as 'rumour'. The first mention was in The Athletic article now behind a paywall, where it's stated that a manager claims that Wilder put the number at $10m.

Whatever it is, I'm curious about what, if any, amount people think he should step aside for. What are the pros and cons?

I can't imagine he'd get 10 fucking Million to not fight, and just step aside. Maybe $500,000 or something like that tops. I mean what's the most anybody has ever made to step aside, and allow a fight to happen?

I know it's nowhere near 10 Mil

That sounds good but what about AJ mandatory when would he get his shot as well. Plus I'm sure Fury and Joshua will have a rematch clause. I'm not against the fight just seems log alot of moving parts and log jams

If I'm the manager I take the 10 mill only if there is an immediate guaranteed fight with the winner of Fury/Joshua written into the contract which would include a favorable split and partial control over logistics, etc.,. He would get more time to recover considering his bicep surgery and mental after the Kronk Fury ass whipping. If he can secure all that, green light.

That's the problem right there. I don't think a guaranteed rematch after stepping aside is very likely to work out. If Wilder is seriously thinking of stepping aside he better get a lot of money upfront.
