I was at the first Pac-Morales fight. I'm a huge Morales fan. He was rarely in a boring or bad fight. That's why I liked him so much. The other guys at his weight class were always capable of turning in a stinker like Marquez, even Barrera sometimes.

IMO Pac and Morales were 100% worth the price of admission at the time. You always knew you were going to get an entertaining fight.

So was I, Pete. Agree 100. Lost my voice by the 2nd round. Sat in the first 5-10 elevated rows for a couple hundred. Talk about bang for your buck.

When you say Live do you mean "In the flesh" or on TV?

To be perfectly honest with you. Having attended Boxing in person about 3 or 4 times now, I think in a lot of ways it's more enjoyable on TV. Certainly in the modern era when you see everything from every angle.

Maybe back in the day when you just had the fixed camera angle, and the grainy TV broadcast it would've been different, but nowadays a great fight is as good on TV as it would be in person really.

Of course none of the fight cards I've been to had just a straight up Fight of the Year kinda brawl break out either. One of those would be awesome to see in person at least once.

Morales is one of my all time favorite fighters, and I agree with you that he was pretty much always exciting.

Marquez is exciting when his opponent is bringing the fight to him, if he was fighting a counter puncher or a cautious boxer chances are it would suck. Marquez is an aggressive counter puncher, but he's always reluctant to take the lead.

Barrera was always entertaining in his younger days, but after getting knocked out by Junior Jones (officially a DQ, but come on) he got a lot more tactical in his approach. Can't fault him for it. It certainly prolonged his career, and allowed him to get some tremendous victories that he likely wouldn't have gotten if not for the adding these wrinkles to his game.

I doubt Barrera would've made the easy work he made out of Hamed without the tactical adjustment.

You haven't been to the right fights then Gil. If you're at the right fight, with the right crowd and atmosphere, there is no comparison. Completely different experience. What fights have you had a chance to see live in person?

Nothing big. I was in Press Row for one of those Tuesday Night cards on FS1 a few years back, and I saw a card main evented by Jermaine Franklin in Michigan. I actually missed the Main Event because we were all about ready to roll out.

The most memorable thing on the card was a guy pulling an upset in a 4 round decision over a 5-0 unbeaten kid. I wanna say it was the 1st win for the guy that won there. Couldn't tell you the names off the top of my head, but I have the program somewhere around here.

I'm jealous of all of you guys that were at morales-pac 1, that must have been incredible. I only had the chance to see Morales once living in ny, and that was the faded version that was stopped by danny garcia. I've attended a number of great fights at the garden, Barclays, Atlantic city and the casinos in Connecticut. I had the pleasure of watching gatti in his prime. Lee vs McEwan stands out as one of the best scraps that I saw live.

To answer the question:

Man, I might have traded places with you on Manny/Morales for Trinidad/Vargas. It doesn't get much better than that fight right there.

That's cool too. I actually went to Franklin's following fight that took place in Tacoma. Those type club fights always have jewels of scraps between some fighters that will never reach gatekeeper status. Different strokes

There was nothing like going to a Gatti fight in Atlantic City. The entire place went crazy when his music started, it was electric.
The fighters he's beaten aren't even household names in their own household.

"Never shall innocent blood be shed. Yet the blood of the wicked shall flow like a river. The three shall spread their blackened wings and be the vengeful striking hammer of god."
