31 years old Michael "Second To" Nunn KO'ed Sumbu Kalambay with a single booming left hand. Nunn appeared on his way to super stardom, then he had his worst performance of his title reign with his boring decision over Barkley. After that Nunn star power faded away.

Re: TODAY in Boxing History
1915- Jess Willard KO 26 Jack Johnson, Havana. Wins World Heavyweight Title. The longest heavyweight title fight of the 20th Century. Johnson, perhaps his vanity wounded, later claimed till the day he died to have intentionally lost the fight, but Willard is widely regarded as winning fairly. Willard said, "If he was going to throw the fight, I wish he'd done it sooner. It was hotter than hell out there."
Johnson found that he could not knock out the giant Willard, who fought as a counterpuncher, making Johnson do all the leading. Johnson began to tire after the 20th round, and was visibly hurt by heavy body punches from Willard in rounds preceding the 26th round knockout. Following the fight, Willard was heralded as "The Great White Hope". https://uploadir.com/u/l99g2lw9

2001- Marco Antonio Barrera UD 12 Prince Naseem Hamed, Las Vegas. Wins World Featherweight Title.
Referee: Joe Cortez | Judge: Chuck Giampa 116-111 | Judge: Patricia Morse Jarman 115-112 | Judge: Duane Ford 115-112.
Barrera handed Hamed his first and only loss in a bout contested for Hamed's lineal world featherweight title and for the vacant IBO featherweight title by a twelve-round decision. Before the fight, Hamed was a 3 to 1 betting favorite in Las Vegas. Hamed could not hit Barrera with his trademark lefts as Barrera circled to his left and worked both head and body. Barrera was not a fan of Hamed's antics and responded to Hamed's punches during clinches. On one occasion early in the fight, Hamed grabbed Barrera and they both fell to the ground where Barrera threw a right jab, leading to a warning from referee Joe Cortez. In the 12th and final round Barrera trapped Hamed in a hold, and forced his head into the turnbuckle, resulting in a point deducted by referee Joe Cortez. Ultimately, Barrera threw more, harder punches and more impressive combinations than Hamed throughout the course of the fight.

1900- James J. Jeffries KO 23 James J. Corbett, Coney Island. Retains World Heavyweight Title.
"The finishing blow came suddenly and was a startling surprise. Corbett had been making a wonderful battle. His defense was absolutely perfect, and while he was lacking in strength, he had more than held his own and stood an excellent chance of winning the fight had it gone the limit. He had not been badly punished and had managed to mark his man severely. The winning punch was a short left to the jaw. Corbett dropped like weight and was clear out. Jeffries showed his ability to take punishment at any distance and hard. He was clearly outboxed and at times was made to look like a novice. The crowd, which numbered fully eight thousand, was with Corbett and his defeat fell upon a silent crowd. There were cheers for him when he revived and left the ring, and he was generally given more consideration than the victor. Corbett is still a factor in pugilistic fame. He has regained much of his old time form. The battle was clean and it is doubtful if there was a single infraction of the rules."
1977- Ken Norton KO 1 Duane Bobick, NYC. The # 1 rated Bobick, 38-0 (32) never stood a chance.
1981- Gerry Cooney KO 1 Ken Norton in NYC
