Hey fellas,
In case you're interested in some current combat sports, the March Sumo tournament is still going on. Currently day 1 of 15 just finished. Here's a link to day 1 with no spoilers.
The basic rules are you lose when you touch outside of the ring or touch the ground in the ring with something besides the bottom of your feet. No eye gouging, no closed fists, no kicks, no hair pulls. It's a round robin style tournament for 15 days. The best record at the end of the 15 days wins. If there's a tie there will be a playoff.
It's weird with no audience, but it's still got some good action.

It's a bit strange watching the top division matches without crowds, but the action has been pretty good. A nice battle at the top with the long-time king in the lead and the 2 hot younger stars Asanoyama and Mitakeumi in pursuit. Aoiyama is also very strong vs the opposition he's been facing at his current rank, so if they don't step his opponents up he could surprise all of them and be right there at the end.
Asanoyama is on track for ozeki promotion, and Mitakeumi may be not far behind (though it seems every time Mita has a real standout tournament he goes right back to so-so numbers)

Yeah, I feel like Asanoyama is getting that Ozeki promotion. Once Mitakeumi got that cut over his eye a few bashos ago he went into a slump. He looks really good this time though. Also, Enho is always fun to watch, but I think he peaked at M4.Tocsin wrote: ↑Wed Mar 18, 2020 1:52 pm It's a bit strange watching the top division matches without crowds, but the action has been pretty good.
