2020 hall of fame ballot
Candidates this year include:
Bernard Hopkins
Juan Manuel Marquez
Sergio Martinez
Carl Froch
Shane Mosley
Tim Bradley
Israel Vazquez
Jorge Arce
Antonio Tarver
Chico Corrales
Joel Casamayor
Vuyani Bungu
Still looks like voters can vote for up to 5 fighters in the modern category, and the top 3 get selected automatically. Any fighter over with 80% of the voting would also get in. Who would be your 5 if you got a vote this year?

B-Hop, El Dinamita and maybe Shane. Timmy, Corrales, Casamayor, Arce, Vazquez are all on bubble for me.
Re: 2020 hall of fame ballot
Hopkins, Marquez, Mosley and Arce are the only four I’d vote for from that group.

Hopkins, Marquez and Mosley. Arce, Vásquez and Casamayor should get in, just not first ballot
That is a hell of a lineup though!

I know nothing about Bungu. I know Sergio, Froch and Casamayor probably shouldn't get in -- at least not this year.

Re: 2020 hall of fame ballot
Also in July, the Hall of Fame, which inducts people in the modern boxer, old-timer, pioneer, nonparticipant and observer categories, announced it would establish two women's categories: a modern category for female boxers whose last bout came no earlier than 1989 and a trailblazer category for female boxers whose last bout came no later than 1988.
The women will appear on the ballot for the first time and the modern ballot includes Laila Ali, Christy Martin, Lucia Rijker, Anne Wolf, Sumya Anani, Regina Halmich, Holly Holm, Susi Kentikian, Jisselle Salandy, Mary Jo Sanders, Laura Serrano and Ana Maria Torres. Voters can vote for up to three candidates and two will be elected.
The new ballots for the observer and nonparticipant ballots are also loaded with many new additions, with those ballots also being cleared of those who had been on for at least 10 years. New additions to the observers ballot are: Seth Abraham (longtime HBO Sports president); Eric Armit (journalist/record-keeper); Ron Borges (journalist); Bob Canobbio (CompuBox founder); Tom Casino (photographer); Percy Dana (photographer); David Dinkins Jr. (longtime Showtime Sports executive producer); Bernard Fernandez (journalist); Thomas Hauser (journalist); Hype Igoe (cartoonist/journalist); Carlos Irusta (journalist); George Kimball (journalist); Jay Larkin (the late longtime Showtime Sports chief); Glyn Leach (editor); Ferdie Pacheco (broadcaster); Shirley Povich (columnist); Tim Ryan (broadcaster); John Sheppard (record-keeper) and Alex Wallau (broadcaster). With holdovers there are 25 candidates in all on the observer ballot. Electors can vote for up to five and two will be elected.
The new ballots for the non-participant ballots are: Kenny Adams (trainer); Rodney Berman (South African promoter); Freddie Brown (cutman); Bill Caplan (legendary publicist); Miguel Diaz (trainer/cutman); Lou DiBella (promoter); Cameron Dunkin (manager); Kathy Duva (Main Events promoter); Duane Ford (judge); Al Gavin (cutman); Harry Gibbs (referee); Brad Goodman (Top Rank matchmaker); Dr. Margaret Goodman (ringside physician, president of the Voluntary Anti-Doping Association); Dan Goossen (promoter); Chuck Hull (ring announcer); Brendan Ingle (trainer); Sampson Lewkowicz (manager/promoter); Jackie McCoy (manager/trainer); Dave Moretti (judge); Carlos Padilla (referee) ;Abel Sanchez (trainer); Fritz Sdunek (trainer); Francisco "Paco" Valcarcel (longtime WBO president) and Ulli Wegner (trainer). Including the holdovers, there are 30 candidates on the nonparticipant ballot. Electors can vote for up to five and three will be elected.

The fighters he's beaten aren't even household names in their own household.

Froch quietly has wins over, Pascal, Taylor, Dirrell (I think he lost, but still), Bute, Kessler, Abraham and Groves x2... that’s pretty good
Hopkins, Mosley and JMM require no explanation

I got Hopkins, Marquez, mosley, and arce.
Tough choice between Bradley and Froch for the 5th spot. Their resumes are very similar.

Mosley will get in but.....
Lost to Wright twice
Lost to cotto
Lost to Forrest twice
Admitted to cheating against dlh in a fight most had him losing
He gets in almost solely because of those dlh wins and he didn't deserve one of them. After dlh his best wins are margarito and vargas

Re: 2020 hall of fame ballot
To me this is a tough class. Marquez and mosley are both blatant cheaters. What would have happened to the sport if Marquez would have killed Pacquiao with that punch? It was comical how roided up he was
I also am sure Hopkins cheated. He avoided stricter testing when it came onto the scene for a reason and I'm not a believer in 48 year old fighters having more endurance than 30 year old fighters
On merit alone it is Hopkins, Marquez. Mosley. Bradley and arce
Bradley over froch because his wins are better

The 4th spot is gonna be interesting to see who gets in.
Hopkins, Marquez and Mosley are absolutes.
Froch and Izzy Vazquez are real close to me for the 4th spot. Either of them or Arce getting in would be fine by me. I believe The ones that don't make it this year may make it at a later date so it'll be alright.

Re: 2020 hall of fame ballot
Marquez and official pac win put Tim over the top but saying it is far better than froch is a stretch
Taylor, Pascal, groves, Kessler, dirrell, bute, glen Johnson, abraham and Robin Reid are comparable to Witter, holt, provodinikov, Peterson, Alexander, casamayor and rios
Both of those are solid resumes.

Wolfe, Rijker, and Kentikian should also go in the first class. 2 is not enough.
Re: 2020 hall of fame ballot
Marquez was old as dirt when Bradley barely beat him and he lost to Pac plain and simple... official score card or not. Froch doesn’t get any credit for losing to Ward and Bradley doesn’t get any credit for losing to Pac
Taylor when Froch beat him, is better than anyone Bradley beat in my opinion.

Strictly by the numbers:ObJuan13 wrote: ↑Fri Oct 04, 2019 2:36 pm Marquez was old as dirt when Bradley barely beat him and he lost to Pac plain and simple... official score card or not. Froch doesn’t get any credit for losing to Ward and Bradley doesn’t get any credit for losing to Pac

Froch:10 wins against former, current, and future champions. 1 division title holder, 3 time champion, also a unified champion
Bradley: 11 wins against former, current, and future champions. 2 division title holder, 3 time champion, unified at 140.
I think just about everyone can agree Bradley was 0 for Pacquaio despite what the official results say but still, it's a solid resume. Likewise for Froch even though he wasnt competitive with Ward.

Re: 2020 hall of fame ballot
Timmy fought JMM 10 months after he knocked out Manny. He beat El Dinamita the same way Floyd did, he was patient which forced El Dinamita to lead and was able to outbox the legend using counters and movement. Also, does Froch get credit for that Dirrell fight because that could have went the other way easily? Food for thought, O.ObJuan13 wrote: ↑Fri Oct 04, 2019 2:36 pm Marquez was old as dirt when Bradley barely beat him and he lost to Pac plain and simple... official score card or not. I do think the resumes are comparable. Froch took Dirrel(questionably), Bute(should've lost to Andrade), Pascal and Groves' zero's and Timmy snatched up the zero's of Lamont, Devon Alexander and Jesse Vargas. Froch is remembered as the more exciting fighter, but I think Timmy and 1 loss Provodnikov is the most memorable fight for both. Timmy went to England to take Witter's belt and unified vs. Holt, Devon while Froch unified vs. Kessler. Froch only took L's vs. Ward and Kessler and Timmy to Manny while the draw on his record for Diego Chavez was utter bullshit.
Take your pick between these 2.
Starting to lean Arce and his titles in 4 weight classes while considering his bloody(literally) entertaining style. May be biased as I was able to watch his war with Hussein Hussein in their initial fight back in '05 in person.
Re: 2020 hall of fame ballot
I hear you and I think Dirrell beat Froch, but at least it was close. Manny beat Tim clearly. I think Provodnikov beat Bradley too (somehow a clear and hard knock down wasn’t scored for Provo) but I don’t hold that against him because it’s debatable.NoPropaganda 253 wrote: ↑Fri Oct 04, 2019 2:57 pmTimmy fought JMM 10 months after he knocked out Manny. To be fair, I’m probably not giving him enough credit for the Peterson win. I love the way Lamont used to fight and Tim deserves credit for taking his 0.
As for Arce, he is probably a HOFer, but I didn’t follow his career closely so it’s not fair for me to offer my opinion on him.

Ironically I viewed both guys as similar types of fighters during their careers. Felt like they were crude, hard worker types who had only slightly above average skill and a very average talent. Could never understand how they won so much.

I felt like that too in alot of ways. I guess it's kind of like Shawn Porter now. Alot of times the guy they may face may have more skill or more talent but they are just relentless and can impose their will on youObJuan13 wrote: ↑Fri Oct 04, 2019 3:21 pmYeah it’s close for sure, just wanted to give Froch a shout out because I was thinking about his career not too long ago and how easy it is to forget about some of his winsFightFanAL wrote: ↑Fri Oct 04, 2019 2:50 pmStrictly by the numbers:ObJuan13 wrote: ↑Fri Oct 04, 2019 2:36 pm Marquez was old as dirt when Bradley barely beat him and he lost to Pac plain and simple... official score card or not.
