The Movie Thread

Post by the13r »

To enter this thread you have to post your Top5 or top10 Movie All time... it helps to give a perspective

If people could drop their reviews on movies and docs they have seen lately or all time and suggest things...

I always follow lots of careers and Mel Gibson's is one of them. I really enjoy the Lethal Weapon movies because they are among the best action movies out there... the second being the full package imo with the music, the director, the actors...

But i'm a fan of gibson for Gallipoli and The Bounty who both make my top10... The Bounty particularly with Vangelis making the ST

That brings me to Gibson's most recent work who has been out recently... I am watching Dragged across concrete which is refreshing in it's pace... reminds me of old school stuffs which was slow but real like... good scenario... good script... good directing... decent acting on main scenes...extremely violent but again real like.

I'd be curious what Erison thought of it if he was still here.

A few different ones I could mention in this thread, but I'll just take it one film at a time.

Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas, where Johnny Depp plays a pretty faithful depiction of the infamous author Hunter S. Thompson. One of my all time favorite movies. Filled with the bizarre ups and downs of living life on the edge. The limitless possibilities of life in this country...but only for those with true grit!

Bill Murray plays Hunter in a movie in the 80's which is good as well, but Fear and Loathing is the best.

A drugged out, crazy adventure into Hunter's life, writing, and all around debauchery. A fascinating character, and incidentally one of my favorite authors as well. Highly quotable movie for those with the right kind of eyes.

A favorite movie of mine is Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. I'm talking the original live action movie from 1990. I've watched that movie countless times and it still holds up today. I still love the scene with Michaelangelo and the Dominos delivery guy. Casey and Raphael in the park is awesome. And I still laug at the scene when Casey saves the Turtles from the Foot Clan in April's pawn shop and when Leonardo asks who is that, Michelangelo says Wayne Gretzky on steroids.

In terms of documentaries that someone might like, I would suggest HBO's documentary Spielberg. It is about Steven Spielberg's life and career as a director. He goes into some detail of why he chose a certain or the reasons he did things a certain way. For instance he talks about Schindler's List and the specific camera he wanted to use and what not. To me it was fascinating. And since I'm someone who likes to write screenplays, watching this helps me creatively for some reason.

Well, damn, George, that a fine fucking list of movies you got right there. Raging Bull, One Flew Over, Unforgiven, Blade Runner I could always sit down and watch.

All time is too damn hard, but here's an assortment of movies of different genres and class I enjoy thoroughly.

Godfather 2
Do The Right Thing

Every time we talk movies I remember that you’re one of the few ppl who appreciate how good of a movie Fresh is. For some reason in slips between the cracks for most ppl and they forget about or never even heard of it

Blade Runner is a far #1 for me... Vangelis' music, the decors, the direction, the artistic performances of actors... the grim future... and so much humanity... Great great movie...

Deer Hunter is also a great movie i agree

Good list

Planes Trains and Automobiles is def one of the comedy i enjoyed the most... prob my fav all time.

I also enjoyed Get the gringo movie... the direction style was cool and Mel was excellent in it.

Dragged Across country was quality... his best film in a while. Very violent, but excellent imo.

It's out there in HD, 160 minutes so a long movie

Fresh is a classic. The kid grand mastered his way through that entire movie. That last seen with his Pop, in the park, when he can finally let his guard down, gets me every time.
