Pacquiao stopped Matthysse Saturday

Apparently this is going to happen on July 14th. If this actually happens, I definitely like it better than Manny vs. Alvarado on the undercard of Horn vs. Crawford.

Amazing how Lucas got in through the back door and landed a Pacquiao fight.
Manny sees a guy who's going to trade with him. And the belt is always a "reason".

Re: Looking Like Manny vs. Matthysse for July 14th
I wouldn't even think it was a back door type of thing. Manny and his team were up front publicly about wanting to fight Matthysse, and when Arum wasn't having that and tried forcing the Alvarado fight, Manny took matters into his own hands. It's not like the Alvarado fight was signed and then this magically happened.theVAMP wrote:Amazing how Lucas got in through the back door and landed a Pacquiao fight.

But this is something I'm looking forward to.

Re: Looking Like Manny vs. Matthysse for July 14th
Matthysse was hand picked, i agree.
Just out of all the guys at the top trying to get a big fight.... Lucas' vulnerability won him the sweepstakes.
We got Spence calling out all the 147 champions.
Thurman trying to put himself back together again.
Crawford trying to position himself for the Manny fight.
Danny Garcia in the wings... Porter... and Mikey Garcia... even Broner still possible.
Outside of Lucas being picked by his team. His name hasn't made headlines.

Re: Looking Like Manny vs. Matthysse for July 14th
Who do people want Manny in with these days? I think it's actually a decent pairing.
I've seen:
Loma = Manny's fighting a lightweight!
Crawford or any elite WW: Manny's getting his ass kicked!
Vargas/Horn: Boringg
Alvarado: Awful!
Matthyse: Mehhhhhhhhh
Who would be ideal? Is he just at the point where pretty much nothing he does is interesting?

People want him to sacrifice himself for the state of boxing...

Re: Looking Like Manny vs. Matthysse for July 14th
Manny is better in just about every aspect and matthyse generally chokes in big fights.
But manny is old with no roach and if he stays in Philippines probably poor sparring. Plus jeff horn gave him hell.... matthyse is a live dog

Late in the game for major changes in the corner, but the end is entirely about the pay and Buboy comes cheap. Curious how much the money men in Malaysia ante'd up for this fight.
Re: Looking Like Manny vs. Matthysse for July 14th
Great fight. If Manny insists on continuing his career I like this fight. Matthysse has hit the jackpot of fights in the division. He must be pretty happy with his promoter right now.
Manny can pretty much train himself at this stage. He just needs someone to squirt water into his mouth between rounds. The question is whether he will prepare properly or not.

Solid matchup I think. They're both past their best, and both show flaws now they didn't show in the past. Could make for an interesting matchup.
Considering the way the unheralded guy was outboxing Matthysse in his last bout I figure Manny is gonna be able to take him too.

Would have loved this fight a lot more when both these guys were relevant.

Re: Looking Like Manny vs. Matthysse for July 14th
I mean strictly for how interesting the matchup could be. I think it's about as interesting now as it ever could've been honestly. Both at their very best Pacquiao rolls right through Matthysse IMO in a fairly one sided fight. Given that they're both advanced in years, and Manny is the older guy, I think it has the potential to be a more evenly matched bout now than it could've been in years past.
Re: Looking Like Manny vs. Matthysse for July 14th
they are both still good too. Past their best but still world class. Good fight.
Re: Looking Like Manny vs. Matthysse for July 14th
I don't know how much Manny has left. I thought he looked terrible vs. Horn.

Re: Looking Like Manny vs. Matthysse for July 14th
Did you see Matthysse's last fight? He looked like sh*t up until the KO, and had lost possibly every round up to that point against a guy most people have never heard of.5_burowz wrote:I don't know how much Manny has left. I thought he looked terrible vs. Horn.
Manny I thought deserved the nod against Horn, though he definitely looked to have slipped significantly to have even been struggling so badly with Horn in the first place.

It is not that bad of a matchup, especially if on free ESPN.

Re: Looking Like Manny vs. Matthysse for July 14th
Manny IMO is still a top welter. He got KO'd cold by JMM but it was a see-saw fight up until that point. He beat Bradley three times, forget about the crooked scorecards in the first fight. He lost to Floyd fair and square. The Horn loss is disputed. Horn has a great chin, he's young, strong and determined. Matthysse is not a master boxer nor is he a young, strong bull like Horn. Matthysse has been hurt before and folded. It seems like the eye is a problem.
I think Manny will win this a lot easier than people think. Yeah, he doesn't throw as many punches per round as he used to but I still think he has the tools to beat Matthysse.

That is your problem with Manny? It is not like he is holding up any fight. These other guys at 147 can fight each other easily, but they prefer to dance around each other like balletPapa1472002 wrote:Just go away already.
Re: Looking Like Manny vs. Matthysse for July 14th
Manny has way more skill than Lucas but I think this could be a fun fight while it lasts... My prediction is Matthysse will throw a lot of punches and look to land his left hook right cross combo but I think it will be Pacman by KO in the 7th....

Shit Pacman can't KO nobody no more. If somebody is getting knocked out in this fight Manny would be the one on the ass end of the KO. I expect Manny to decision Matthysse though.chef97 wrote:Manny has way more skill than Lucas but I think this could be a fun fight while it lasts... Only way I can see him stopping Matthysse is if Matthysse's old eye injury rears it's ugly head again, which is certainly a possibility that could lead to a stoppage.
