MarvNation Promotions wins Jose Zepeda vs Regis Prograis purse bid with monster $2.4 million offer
https://www.badlefthook.com/2022/8/30/2 ... -news-2022
Today has been just full of surprises. Not long after Lou DiBella snatched Joshua Buatsi vs Jean Pascal out from under Eddie Hearn’s nose, MarvNation Promotions won the rights to Jose Zepeda vs Regis Prograis with a gigantic $2.4 million bid, doubling up on PBC’s $1.2 million offer.
From what I’ve been able to gather, MarvNation is a local promotion out of California. Its website, which looks like it was slapped together in about two hours by an underpaid web designer, isn’t even up to date with its fighters’ records. The most notable member of their stable is Yokasta Valle, who signed a co-promotional deal with Golden Boy in June and will headline one of their shows a week from Thursday.
So, any guesses as to what the story is and how things will play out? Is this a Triller situation? Is MarvNation functioning as a front for Golden Boy or Probellum, whom they’ve worked with before? Are they going to come up empty-handed when it’s time to scrounge up the down payment and leave the rights in PBC’s hands?
Or is this a true underdog story, one where a plucky upstart realized this was their chance to be a big shot and put everything they had into chasing that dream?
Whatever the case, I just hope the fight happens. Zepeda (35-2, 27 KO) and Prograis (27-1, 23 KO) will beat the tar out of each other if they get the chance to share the ring.

The fighters he's beaten aren't even household names in their own household.

Good for MarvNation I say. I've seen a few of their cards and they have some decent fighters. Of course, nowhere near the level of Prograis or Zepeda - more like ShoBox rejects - but $2.4M isn't an outrageous sum like what it took Triller to initially win Lopez-Kambosos. And we all know the hurdles that promotion faced along the way. The bottom line is can they make their investment back. The key of course is the broadcast deal. Prograis-Zepeda is a quality fight that should fetch a healthy rights fee. Give em a chance.

They will sell it easy to Azteca and make it a Fite ppv in n-america. But they will also sell it to espn Latino, UK, Poland...
It's a lot of money but it might attract more names. They might put it with exhibitions wiyh the likes of Barrera, arce, jcc...

Yeah I think it will work real well but bomb on Fite.tv ppv... unless they garnish the card well... zepeda will be a highly regarded main event on azteca7

I think this is gonna be a fun fight. I favor Prograis because of his skill and size, but Zepeda has KO power and can stop anyone.

Marv is co-promoting with GoldenBoy in Costa Rica this week with DAZN as broadcaster. If they can place Zepeda-Prograis on DAZN, not bad at all. Perhaps a launch for further business between the two.

Say it ain't so Marv
And really nice win for Prograis. Zepeda is a good fighter, so beating him up and stopping him is quite a result. Given how bad Josh Taylor looked last fight, and how close Taylor-Prograis was, one has to wonder if Prograis is actually the best at 140 atm.

It was Legendz who were responsible for the funding. Marv was in the picture because they're the one with the California promoter's license. The story is the bank account was newly created and all of a sudden large sums were going in and out so the bank said Whoa. Prograis's now gotten 50% of his purse with the rest due today (Thurs).
That being said it was a disappointing show for a fight of this caliber. 4300 ppl in attendance and a Yahoo source put the PPV sales at about 20,000. It's not gonna work if the B-teamers (promoter, that is) try to go it alone. Need to hook on with a major broadcaster and get the promotional machinery rolling.

There was litterally no promotion for it, same for BLK with CRawford... zero promotion besides goofing around about it... BLK had 50 followers on twitter when the fight was announced... only a bad short promo video has started to go around less than a week ago showing crawford talking about it... His feud with Spence has more publicity...
