Best toppings for burgers done on Charcoal grill?

Post by Peat56 »

For the fight tonight I'm doing some nice hamburgers on charcoal grill. Burgers are homemade, in fact, my wife is grinding the beef herself from her own method/recipe. She might even bake the buns fresh.

What do you all like on your burger?

I actually like very little. Too many toppings and you have a mess and things don't work in harmony.

But I would love to hear of some interesting things to put on these beauties

Basil is an underrated thing to throw on a burger. And use a red onion...grill it if you can. Pretzel bun too.

Sometimes simple ingredients work best but I'd add some apple wood smoked bacon to your toppings.... :)

wtf is it with lettuce on burgers? I've never really understood why, just the opposite of the experience I'm looking for when I'm eating a burger. If I was in the mood for a salad I'd have one.

A local burger place, called Burgerville, has a special sauce. These are the copy cat ingredients:

1/2 cup mayonnaise
1 tablespoon dill relish
1 tablespoon sweet pickle relish
1 1/4 teaspoon yellow mustard
3/4 teaspoon granulated sugar

Mix and refrigerate for 30 mins.

They serve their basic cheese burgers with this special sauce on the top of the patty/cheese and ketchup below the patty. It's a very unique flavor but also very popular.

Add capers, fine diced red onion and chopped fresh parsley and omit the mustard and you have chef's not yet famous tartar sauce.... :D
