I think it's pretty cool that CalTrans accept experience as education.... I have a culinary degree which was a requirement for my job back 14 years ago when I started w/ the company... But now on the jobs they post on the career center for me they no longer require a culinary degree.... A chef buddy of mine back home in SF is an executive chef making over 100k a year and he had no formal culinary education... He worked his way up the hard way.... Good stuff Stray, thanks for sharing!

I know it's tough out there, 35-45k annually could be a nose turner too some but for a prep cook making under 20k the cook 1 or 2 position could be a nice fit.
The maintanence stations on 80 put up personnel who work the storms. The kitchens stay open 24hrs split over 2 shifts. A nice size storm could run 3-4 weeks easy as they run storm schedule as long as snow is forcasted with in any 48hr period it let's up. If you don't mind the OT it makes it a plus.
