- Estrada came into the bout as the WBC's mandatory challenger. He had earned that distinction with a 12-round, unanimous decision over Saul "Baby" Juarez on May 27, 2017.
- Menayothin floored Estrada five times- twice in round 3, twice in round 4, and once in round 5. Referee Jay Nady mercifully stopped the contest after the fifth knockdown.
- This was Menayothin's ninth successful title defense.
