- This was Castellanos' first bout since his KO-7 loss to Oscar Escandon on March 5, 2016.
- Castellanos weighed in at 133 as did Gamboa.
- Castellanos decked Gamboa twice- once in round 3 and once in round 4.
- Since losing by TKO-5 to Mikey Garcia on May 17, 2008, Castellanos is 19-4 including wins over Alejandro Sanabria, Christopher Perez, Alberto Garza, Celestino Caballero, Ronny Rios, Rocky Juarez, and, now, Gamboa.
