Re: CARL The Truth WILLIAMS Vs. LARRY The Easton Assassin HO

Post by the13r »

ROUND 1:
10-9.5 for Williams
Both landed solid jabs but i preferred Williams', both landed rights in the final 30 seconds.

ROUND 2:
10-9 for Williams
Larry starting strong and controlling the distance with counter jabs and some flush 1-2s to negate Williams better footwork. Half way in the round, Williams landed the first shot to the body in the fight, it was a 2 punches combo and he then threw a nice jab. Williams then landed that trademark hook/jab twice. That gave Williams enough confidence to land a distance combo flush. This round started as a clear round for Holmes but Williams got the second half even more clearly.

ROUND 3:
10-9.5 for Holmes
Holmes starts pumping the jab and for once using more dynamic footwork. Holmes lands a big right to which Williams tries to retaliate with a combo without doing much damage. Half way in the round, Williams starts to land jabs in combo, threw almost 10 in a row. Holmes retaliated with some heavy jabs that slightly opened Williams eye. Holmes also threw his first body shot of the fight from in close after throwing a jab. Holmes controlled more of the action imo being more effective too throwing the best shot of the fight early in the round (flush straight right), going to the body and throwing a heavier jab that cut WIlliams.

Notes: Weird coagulant used at the end of the round on WIlliams' left eye. Ref Mills Lane: "Get that thing out of there" to which the cutman replied: "That thing stays"...

ROUND 4
10-9 for Williams
Williams starts real strong by doubling his trademark jab/hook and hurting Holmes who held the ropes. Williams then threw a combo that didn't landed flush on Holmes who was looking to hold back against the ropes. Both fighters then traded jabs until Williams landed a nice straight right after feinting to which Holmes retaliated with right hooks. Williams then got Holmes thumb in the eye, Holmes tried to land a few rights.

Notes: When Lane again came to complain about the substance used on Williams eye, the corner replied to ask to Holmes to close his hand when he throws to prevent the thumb gouging the eye.

ROUND 5
10-9 for Williams
Williams staying well at distance in the 1st minute using his quicker jab to score a few shots. 1 minute in the round, Williams timed Holmes who sometimes started the rounds bouncing (but quickly went back to passive footwork) and threw a nice counter combo against Holmes jab. Holmes was able to also counter with a right. WIlliams totally in control gains confidence and starts to throw lots of straight rights which land well. Holmes reacted by throwing clubbing rights from the clinch which still looked a little dangerous (similar shot to what Bruno stopped Williams with). Still Williams' best round and the most polarized round of the fight so far.

ROUND 6
10-9 for Williams
Williams starting strong with jabs and body shots from the clinch. Williams winning the jab contest for 2 minutes and then again gaining confidence and starting to throw the right from distance and mixing it in combos with the jab, the trademark jab/hook and rights to the body too. Holmes even rocked a little. Clear WIlliams round no doubt here, even clearer than round 5. Lane warned Holmes to close his gloves while throwing the jab.

ROUND 7
10-9.5 for Holmes
Nice jab displayed by both in the 1st minute, but Williams busier and scoring with a body shot combo on the inside. Williams landing a nice flush right from in close. Larry landing heavier jabs and looking to time that big right. Lane again warns Holmes to close his glove when throwing.Holmes throwing a big 4 rights combo in the final 30 seconds. Holmes just landed his best offense of the fight so far. Williams still was better in the previous 2 and a half minute. But the most effective shots were from Holmes with that final combo to which WIlliams shook his head saying it didn't hurt. Williams starting to show signs of fatigue with his legs getting rubbery.

ROUND 8
10-9.5 for Holmes
Williams starting the round strong doing what he should always do, using bouncing footwork and scoring from distance, exposing Holmes' heavy feet. Williams controlling the 1st minute that way with both guys looking to land from distance. But Holmes starting to power punch in combo, using the right hook to the head and left hook to the body on the inside and trying to also time nice straight 1-2s... Both working well half way in the round. Williams trying to retaliate with quicker combos, but they don't seem to carry much weight as again, he looks a little fatigue and his legs aren't able to instigate weight transfers as much. Tough round to judge with WIlliams being busier but less efficient.

Notes: Williams told his corner he was tired.

ROUND 9
10-9 for Holmes
Both guys again throwing from distance. Williams starting strong using lots of bouncing footwork but like in the last few rounds, he quickly drops the busy footwork... WIlliams again busier offensively from distance in the 1st half using the jab a lot, but Holmes more effective with the heavier jab and the big 2 hooks combo to the body on the inside. Holmes landed a BIG straight right (ending a 1-2 straight combo) under Williams left arm pit which cancelled the jab output of WIlliams for 30 seconds. Holmes was able to apply pressure and land power shots. Williams shaking his head saying he wasn't hurt again... Holmes landing that same straight 1-2 (jab and straight right under the arm pit of Williams) and that started Holmes best sequence in the fight so far. For 30 seconds, he landed power shots on Williams who seemed hurt and had stiff legs. Holmes best round so far.

ROUND 10:
10-9 for Williams
Both fighters taking the round really easy with Williams using footwork to bounce and jab. Holmes obviously fatigued from the effort at the end of the previous round... he bascailly took the round off and WIlliams won it with a busier jab and a nice countering left hook to the body in the final 30 seconds.

ROUND 11:
10-9.5 for Williams
Both fighters again trading jabs in the first half. Holmes' eye starting to close now. Holmes landed a nice short right to the ribs of Williams half way in the round which was the best punch so far. Lane asks both guys to close their gloves. With 1 minute left, Larry landed a nice straight 1-2 to which Williams shook his head saying he wasn't hurt. Williams then retaliated with a nice multiple punch combos including short hooks and uppercuts to put Holmes in the ropes.

Notes: Williams shouted to Holmes
"What's the matter champ?"
Holmes didn't answer back.

ROUND 12
10-9 Holmes
Holmes coming out strong in the 1st minute landing a flush counter straight right and a very nice compact leaping left hook right on the chin of Williams. Williams doing the mistake of not pumping the jab anymore which is creating lots of opportunities for Holmes. Williams also passive with his footwork. Holmes timing Williams who's now staying at the boundary of the pocket looking to land 1-2s instead of jabbing and moving. Holmes able to do so and landing the straight right flush twice in a row. Holmes closed the round with 2 similar combos (blinding jab and straight right to the body). Holmes' thumb again caught WIlliams in the eye. Carl complained and Lane gave ANOTHER warning to Holmes.

Notes: Williams talking to Holmes:
"You can't do anything to me, those don't hurt"

ROUND 13
10-9 for Holmes
Williams landing a nice 1-2 in the 1st minute. Holmes targeting WIlliams eye and body with the jab.The body work to the left side of Williams has truly been very efficient in the last rounds because WIlliams drastically dropped his jab output which is making him much more vulnerable and easy to time. Holmes controlled much of the first 2 minutes but Williams decided to end strong bouncing and jabbing and throwing nice combos.

ROUND 14
10-9 for Holmes
Williams coming out very strong with multiple jabs in combo and then a 2 punch combo tot he body. Both fighters were then very passive for the first half. Lane gives another warning to both fighters to keep their gloves closed. Holmes landed a BIG right to the ribs of Williams. Carl ran for almost a minute without throwing a jab. Holmes caught Williams with a straight right while he was almost gliding using that lateral footwork. Williams came back with a nice combo. Holmes ends strong with heavy jabs, clubbing rights and a very nice counter straight right.

ROUND 15
10-9 for Holmes
Williams comes out bouncing and looking to jab. Holmes starts to let his right go at the end of the 1st minute and that gets Williams to stop moving. Holmes then took a minute off which gave time for Williams to recuperate and start bouncing again and throwing in combos with 1 minute left. Williams landed some good jabs and a nice right to Holmes body. Holmes also landed some good rights which were the most efficient punches of the round.

MY FINAL SCORE:
Williams 143.5
Holmes 144

The battle of the jab took it's toll on both guys eye. Holmes started slow in the fight and in most of the rounds. But he eventually started to throw and time more rights. Holmes' best move was to target Williams ribs under his arm pit with the straight right. That made Williams drop the jab output which was causing Holmes all kind of trouble due to his lack of mobility. I think Williams basically loss the fight himself by not sticking to a strong game plan which was obviously working really well. When he kept a lateral bouncing footwork and used a distant jab, his trademark jab/hook and some random straights in combos, he did extremely well. When he dropped the jab and the footwork, he became more vulnerable to Holmes' heavier jab and right hand in combo.

Great fight!!
