G1B6ER15H
Mayweather 10-9
Mayweather wins the round mostly on the work he does in the first minute. Castillo lands couple of impressive jabs and starts working to the body at the end of the round. Neither is enough to take the first from Mayweather who is much quicker.

FIGHTFANATIC1
Mayweather 10-9
Easy round to score. Mayweather was clearly faster and landed the bigger shots. His hand speed looks dominant early while Castillo is only trying to counter and having a tough time of it.

ERISON
Mayweather 10-9
Mayweather boxed well this round, keeping JLC off balance with jabs and lead left hooks. He fought a mostly safety first round, keeping Castillo at a distance. Castillo did a lot of following, always at least a few steps behind Mayweather, although he did land a few noteworthy body shots.

CEELOW
Mayweather 10-9
PBF starts out strong! So far its all PBF - so agile w/ a consistent pin point attack. Castillo is just chasing PBF around teh ring w/ out moving his hands, simply just not busy enough.

RASTA666
Mayweather 10-9
Not a very active round. Floyd landed the better shots while Castillo was searching.

LURKYSHAKA
Mayweather 10-9
Not much landed by either as both feel their way into fight. But anything of any note landed by Mayweather.

M__DE
Mayweather 10-9
Floyd hurts his left arm in this round.

LAGAIDH
Mayweather 10-9

BHOPREIGN
Mayweather 10-9
Mayweather keeps distance and pounces in and out with jabs to the body and head with some regularity. Castillo lands a nice jab within first 6 seconds of round but nothing clean thereafter.

GUYSTA
Mayweather 10-9
The difference in hand and footspeed is really easy to tell as the first round plays out. And Floyd is taking full advantage of his advantages in these departments. He is pot shotting and moving great. Castillo spends the entire round watching Floyd and trying to time him. He basically gives the round away.

G1B6ER15H
Mayweather 10-9
Closer round as Castillo starts to up the pressure, but Mayweather lands the cleaner, showier punches. Mayweather’s footwork is very impressive this round.

FIGHTFANATIC1
Castillo 10-9
Round was a little tough to score being that not much stuff landed and no one really controlled the ring. The butt took some steam out of this round. Mayweather landed a perfect counter right hand near the end of the round but it was the only clean punch he landed and Castillo appeared to do better work.

ERISON
Castillo 10-9
Very close round. Mayweather boxed well for the first minute, landing good jabs and right hooks from the southpaw stance. The headbutt truly seemed to bother him, as Castillo took the oppurtunity to jump on Floyd and land well to the body, and a few scraping rights to the jaw. Close.

CEELOW
Mayweather 10-9
PBF sticks & moves, catching JLC w/ some good shots. Castillo isnt throwing enough punches. A sweet counter right highlights the Rd for PBF.

RASTA666
Mayweather 10-9
Very close rd. Floyd won the first half of the round with Castillo coming on in the second half. I could see this round going either way.

LURKYSHAKA
10-9 Mayweather
Similar to first, both loosening up a bit though. Mayweatyer maintains distance and lands more to take round.

M__DE
10-9 Mayweather
to make matters worse for Floyd he gets a cut from a headbutt. there is also a questionable call regarding a slip. yes, Castillo was off balance but he also got hit by a punch.

LAGAIDH
10-9 Mayweather

BHOPREIGN
Mayweather 10-9
With what appears to be a knockdown for Mayweather is ruled a slip because of Floyd stepping on the foot of Castillo. Mayweather switching from orthodox to southpaw lands jabs and hooks. Castillo presses forward and lands a clean left hook after a range finding jab and before some nice body work but not enough to win the round.

GUYSTA
Mayweather 10-9
The first minute of the round was pretty even with neither fighter really accomplishing much. After the headbutt, Castillo really seamed to get energized for a bit. He came in and landed a few good shots. But after that he stopped throwing again and watched Floyd pick him apart. It was closer than the first round, but still a good round for Mayweather.

G1B6ER15H
Mayweather 10-9
Mayweather wins this round with steady jab work both to the head and the body throughout. Castillo lands a couple of big punches towards the end of the round, but two shots do not make a round. Mayweather’s ring generalship, which has been masterful so far, is beginning to be tested by Castillo’s pressure.

FIGHTFANATIC1
Castillo 10-9
This round was also tough to score. Not a lot of action and very few telling punches. Floyd worked the jab to the body of Castillo but it was not thrown with conviction and bad intent. It was thrown more as a set up for something else, that something else never came though. At the 30 sec mark Castillo lands a beautiful left hook followed by a straight right, that in my opinion won him the round.

ERISON
Mayweather 10-9
Another extremely hard round to score. Mayweather boxed well, moving and sticking the jab. Castillo also did good things when Mayweather backs to the ropes. Castillo also used some nifty (albeit some dirty) to get Mayweather on the ropes. Mayweather seemed to land slightly more.

CEELOW
Mayweather 10-9
JLC is throwing more punches. PBF's ring generalship won him this Rd. *the turning point?:towards teh end of teh Rd w/ PBF against teh ropes JLC was able to effectively land some hard body shots.*

RASTA666
Mayweather 10-9
This was another tight round to score but Floyd seemed the busier while Castillo continues to stalk him.

LURKYSHAKA
10-9 Mayweather
Mayweather stats round brightly but Castillo starts to come on in the last mintue and find some range. But Mayweather still takes round on my card.

M__DE
10-9 Mayweather
Close Round. for the the most part Floyd worked the jab to the body well but Castillo had a good flurry at the end of the round. some people (like Howard Lederman) gave the round to Castillo but i thought Floyd did enough in the first 2:30 of the round to take it.

LAGAIDH
10-9 Mayweather

BHOPREIGN
Mayweather 10-9
Floyd potshotting and Castillo catching jabs and firing some of his own, Floyd notices and feints with a slower jab only to bring back and fire back again. Castillo pressuring but just a hair slow in returning counters. Castillo lands a thudding body shot along with a nice 1-2, still not enough to offset Floyd's defense and jabs to the body.

GUYSTA
Mayweather 10-9
Castillo really seems frustrated during the round. He can't catch Floyd. And Floyd is potshotting im and moving nicely. A pretty easy round to score for Floyd as Castillo just followed him and took shots.

G1B6ER15H
Even 10-10
A very sloppy round, with most of the clean punching being done by Mayweather. Castillo is beginning to roughhouse and have some success, and the uppercut at the end of the round is his best punch so far. Without the uppercut the round goes to Mayweather, but it makes the round close enough to call even.

FIGHTFANATIC1
Mayweather 10-9
Floyd does a beautiful job of countering Castillo as the round begins. His speed advantage is evident and in this round and although the action is picking up Castillo is still very tentative and is getting frustrated by Floyds footwork and spacing.

ERISON
Mayweather 10-9
Mayweather landed very well this round. Castillo only worked while clinched. In the open ring, Mayweather is tagging him at will and boxing well. He does go to the ropes way too often. Castillo lands nice shots at those times.

CEELOW
Mayweather 10-9
PBF controls the action in the ring making JLC miss while catching him w/ jabs, left hooks, and straight rights. JLC lands a good uppercut towards the end of the Rd.

RASTA666
Mayweather 10-9
Mayweather working pretty well in this round and landing but also starting to get trapped on the ropes and being muscled around by Castillo.

LURKYSHAKA
10-9 Mayweather
Scrappy round. Mayweaher landing cleaner blows but begins to show out to the referee. Winning rounds but looking bothered.

M__DE
10-9 Castillo
Close Round. Floyd switched southpaw, which shows me hes having difficulty throwing his injured left arm. Castillo did alot of holding this round.

LAGAIDH
10-9 Castillo

BHOPREIGN
Mayweather 10-9
Mayweather landing an occasional jab to the body, Castillo still trying to get inside and the two grappling a bit, Floyd seeming more and more uncomfortable. Castillo lands a nice uppercut near the end of the round.

GUYSTA
Mayweather 10-9
Mayweather continued to move nicely in this round and was potshotting Castillo with good timing. But it seems Castillo started to get into the fight this round. He didn't throw enough and didn't land enough to win the round. But he started to force the fight more and was way more ascertive........even if it was for naught.

G1B6ER15H
Mayweather 10-9
Almost all Mayweather for the first two minutes of the round, with the exception of a couple of body shots by Castillo. In the last minute Castillo comes on strong and lands several good shots. Mayweather comes back with a couple of big blows only to receive immediate retaliation from Castillo. The last minute of the round might prompt some to give it to Castillo, but on the whole I have to go with Mayweather.

FIGHTFANATIC1
Mayweather 10-9
This round was a boxing clinic by Mayweather early on. His footwork was superior, his countering was superior, he was dominant early on. Mayweather landed some very telling punches that were very sharp and crisp and found the mark cleanly. Castillo appeared to be trying to close the distance, but was trying to do so without throwing the jab at all and was getting countered by Mayweather. Towards the end of the round Castillo starting landing some big shots and was effectively getting inside but not nearly enough to take the round. Easy round for Floyd.

ERISON
Castillo 10-9
Mayweather boxed well most of the round, until the last 45 seconds when Castillo came on, landing well to the head and body. He got in close, and dirty with Mayweather and began pounding him roughly. Castillo's only shot relies on the roughhouse tactics. He cant continue to follow Mayweather around the ring.

CEELOW
Castillo 10-9
JLC is closing teh gap and is being much more effective w/ his attack. PBF is punching less and & moving more. PBF catches JLC w/ a good shot (during last few seconds) & JLC answers back w/ one of his best shots of teh fight, his trademark lefthook.

RASTA666
Castillo 10-9
Floyd seemed to land more but Castillo landed much stronger and effective blows overall. Depends on what you look for. For me Castillo won the round over the last half.

LURKYSHAKA
10-9 Mayweather
Castillo lands bigger shots byt Mayweather still sneaks enough little shots and counters to take round.

M__DE
10-9 Mayweather
again Floyd switches southpaw during the round.

LAGAIDH
10-9 Mayweather

BHOPREIGN
Mayweather 10-9
Castillo moving forward aggressively, landing few shots but hard ones. Floyd lands some clean hooks, one while in southpaw stance, Castillo lands a hard body shot in last minute of round, Floyd continues to pepper with jab.

GUYSTA
Mayweather 10-9
This round kind of baffled me. I watched it the first time, and thought it was a good round for Floyd. But when I went on to the next round, they were talking about how Castillo landed more and put a lot of pressure on him. So I went back on watched it 3 more times.......and I have no idea what the hell they were talking about! Castillo only landed a jab and a punch to Floyd's back in the first 2 MINUTES! He had a nice flury in the first part of the last minute of the round, but nothing that was good enough to offset the nice counters and potshots that Floyd landed throughout the entire

G1B6ER15H
Castillo 10-9
Round 6 is all Castillo. Mayweather lands a couple of pot shots early and one late, but that’s it. In the meantime, Castillo successfully pins Mayweather on the ropes multiple times, landing several hooks to the body and overhand rights. Mayweather complains of low blows, but they all look legal to me.

FIGHTFANATIC1
Castillo 10-9
Wow. Castillo effectively got inside the entire round without jabbing his way in. He essentially walked Mayweather into the corner and into the ropes the entire round and landed some nice right hands to face and right hooks to the body. Mayweather landed a beautiful counter and then a straight right at the bell but it wasn’t nearly enough to offset the work done by Castillo in this round. Easy round for Castillo.

ERISON
Castillo 10-9
Castillo is really getting rough. He's battering Mayweather with no concern for rules, but its working. And finally, a bit of anger and heart from Mayweather. After being pushed to the canvas, he pulled himself up and fired back with agression. Yet another close round.

CEELOW
Castillo 10-9
JLC has PBF w/ his back against the ropes & is landing some hard body shots. Castillo lands another big left hook.
JLC proceeds to hot PBF w/ maybe more shots than he's ever gotten hit w/ up to this point in his career.

RASTA666
Castillo 10-9
Castillo trying to take this to the alley and he does. Floyd counters pretty well but Castillo really coming on and landing much more effectively. He also began getting under Floyds skin.

LURKYSHAKA
10-9 Castillo
Castillo starts to land with more regularity. Mayweather still sneaking counters but Castillo lands harder blows and pressures well.

M__DE
10-9 Castillo
the fight starts to change and Castillo starts to come on strong.

LAGAIDH
10-9 Castillo

BHOPREIGN
10-9 Castillo
Castillo's aggression is as effective as in any of the previous five frames as he lands clean overhand rights up top and to the body. Floyd seeming more and more uncomfortable as more of his shots this round are blocked by Castillo.

GUYSTA
Castillo 10-9
Castillo really dominated the round. This was the first round where he was catching up to Floyd with his feet to go along with his punches. He landed some great shots and did some nice body work too. A great round for Castillo.

G1B6ER15H
Castillo 10-9
They fight on even terms through most of the round, with Mayweather doing steady jabbing and slipping a lot of Castillo’s punches and Castillo landing some big hooks and overhand rights. However Castillo takes over in the last thirty seconds and it’s enough to win him the round. He even appears to have hurt Mayweather to the body right at the end of the round.

FIGHTFANATIC1
Castillo 10-9
Another good round for Castillo. Floyd is countering still but it doesn’t appear as though he is throwing with vicious intent and is not landing at the rate that Castillo is. Castillo in the early part of the round and at the end was landing the bigger harder punches and is still surprisingly walking Mayweather down without jabbing. Clear round for Castillo.

ERISON
Castillo 10-9
Mayweather owned this round, but then he gave it away by allowing Castillo to stay close and pound away at Floyd's head and body. He was landing extremely well at the very end when it appeared that Mayweather was trying to do a bit of clowning.

CEELOW
Castillo 10-9
JLC is hitting PBF w/ big shots...landing everywhere...especially the body. PBF is throwing 1 shots at a time while JLC moves him up against the ropes catching him w/ numerous shots (landing the biggest body shots of the fight).

RASTA666
Castillo 10-9
Floyd is pecking away but Castillo continues to throw hard and lands much more effective. Castillo gets to Floyds body well.

LURKYSHAKA
10-9 Castillo
Similar to 6th, Castillo lands some heavy body shots while Mayweather pecks and prods

M__DE
10-9 Castillo

LAGAIDH
10-9 Castillo

BHOPREIGN
Castillo 10-9
Pretty much even going into the last fifteen seconds when Castillo feints a left hook to the body only to land a 1-2 up top, Floyd smiles in respect, Castillo finishes the round by landing a hard right hand and thudding body shots.

GUYSTA
Castillo 10-9
Another great round for Castillo. He is all over Floyd again this round. Landing good shots to the body and head. Floyd doesn't throw or land a thing the whole round. Probably Castillo's best round of the fight.

CLICK HERE for the Hls of the 8th ROUND

G1B6ER15H
Mayweather 10-9
A very close round that I scored even. The point deduction (which seemed really quick to me) makes it a Mayweather round. Mayweather pot shots with several jabs to the head and a couple to the body. He also lands a couple of clean counter power shots. Castillo shows a pretty good jab in the opening seconds but abandons it quickly. Instead, he concentrates on the body throughout the round and lands blows.

FIGHTFANATIC1
Mayweather 10-9
I was all set to call this round even til the point deduction. Not a lot of action in this round due to Floyds unwillingness to engage in this round but as Castillo did the better body work Floyd did better work with the jab. Both landed clean straight rights in the round that excellent punches but the round goes to Floyd due to the point deduction.

ERISON
Mayweather 10-8
Was a decent round by both. A Castillo headbutt draws the foul, thus the 10-8 round. His right hand truly seems to be bothering him.

CEELOW
EVEN 9-9
Every time PBF throws he thinks about moving, every time JLC throws he thinks about hurting him. Point deduction was BS, its too late in a close fight to call that. Give a final warning.

RASTA666
EVEN 9-9
A little tougher round to score due to the butt however I had Castillo winning the round so with the point deduction factored in this round is even.

LURKYSHAKA
EVEN 9-9
Mayweather pecks away with jab. Castillo lands the heavier more damaging blows. Closish round heading Castillo's way but point deduction mean the round ends up even.

M__DE
Mayweather 10-8
Floyd gets back on track by throwing his jab. Castillo loses a point for hitting on the break.

LAGAIDH
Mayweather 10-8

BHOPREIGN
EVEN 9-9
Floyd's jab not as crisp as earlier has allowed Castillo to close the distance even more while landing his own jabs. Towards the end of the round Castillo is deducted a point for hitting on the break.

GUYSTA
Castillo 10-9
Floyd has slowed down to a crawl. He isn't throwing anything and he is spending he the fight along the ropes trying to pick Castillo's punches off with no plan of offense of his own. Another round of Castillo dominating the fight and just swarming Floyd with punches from every angle. Good round for Castillo again.

G1B6ER15H
Mayweather 10-9
Mayweather gets the better of the early exchanges and then controls the rest of the round with his jab and great footwork. Castillo lands one big body shot, but it’s not enough to win a round.

FIGHTFANATIC1
Mayweather 10-9
Floyd returned to outboxing Castillo in this round. The round started out with some great two way action then the Ref told the two fighters to “calm it down” and they apparently did so. Which of course brings up the famous Larry Merchant rant “WHAT DO YOU MEAN CALM IT DOWN?! THIS IS A FIGHT!!!!. Hillarious stuff. That said Mayweather was the boxer in this round and gets it 10-9

ERISON
Mayweather 10-9.
Now this is the fight I want to see. Two top guys going at it with skill and power. Mayweather landed some great shots early. Castillo continues to scrape along. Very close round, almost scored it even, but Mayweather's speed and accuracy won this one.

CEELOW
Castillo 10-9
Things are getting ugly in the ring...favoring JLC. Castillo keeps moving PBf up against teh ropes while he (pbf) keeps moving and throwing. JLC landed the harder shots.

RASTA666
Mayweather 10-9
Best round of the fight so far. Good exchanges but Floyd seemed the more accurate and carried the numbers.

LURKYSHAKA
EVEN 10-10
Castillo continues to come on. Still getting tagged with small sneaky counters on the way in at times, but Mayweather looks tired in this round and looks to stay out of harms way rather than engage. Mayweather lands sneak shots, whole Castillo lands heavier sporadically.

M__DE
EVEN 10-10

LAGAIDH
Castillo 10-9

BHOPREIGN
EVEN 10-10
Neither guy landing much in the way of clean punches, Castillo's aggression however effective neutralizes Floyd's defense.

GUYSTA
EVEN 10-10
Floyd starts this round off better. He is controlling Castillo with his jab and Castillo seems to have slowed a bit. But after the first+ Castillo starts pressuring and throwing nonstop again. He makes a huge mistake and throws on the break though and it cost him a point and a win of the round. It was a really close round but Castillo was a little busier in the half of the round he won imo.

G1B6ER15H
EVEN 9-9
Mayweather controlling the round through the first half with a good jab and some big counter left hooks. Castillo comes on strong with body work in the last minute, but still not enough to win the round. The point deduction for pushing makes it an even round.

FIGHTFANATIC1
Castillo 10-9
Wow. Again I was all set to call this round even and then the point deduction. Floyd was landing clean punches in spurts and Castillo was working the body. Both men had their moments in this round and the point deduction was the deciding factor for Castillo taking this round.

ERISON
Castillo 10-8.
Castillo landed very well to the body in this round. He was very rough and even broke some rules (like getting behind Mayweather and beating on his back and body). Mayweather also landed some very good hooks and straight rights here. I think it was Castillo's round before the deduction, and even more distance with the 10-8.

CEELOW
EVEN 9-9
PBF landing fast effective blows, hitting JLC w/ some good rights. Than he lands a couple of good left hooks. Another weird point deduction!! This time point taken from PBF.

RASTA666
10-8 Castillo
Castillo really coming on in this round. Floyd seems weary and defensive. Given the point deduction...

LURKYSHAKA
10-8 Castillo
Mayweather keeping Castillo away in first half of round but goes into a survival mode as round progresses. Castillo gains the momentum and comes on strong in fnal minute. Castillo's round 10-9 but with deduction its a two pointer

M__DE
EVEN 9-9
Mayweather won the round but lost a point for pushing off with his elbow.

LAGAIDH
Castillo 10-8
Castillo, 10-8 due to the point deduction

BHOPREIGN
EVEN 9-9
Floyd's early work enough to carry the round as the ever adventurous Vic Drakulich cant seem to stay out of the way as a point is deducted from Mayweather.

GUYSTA
Castillo 10-8
Another good round for JLC. He is just too busy for Mayweather who seems to be a bit tired and isn't willing to let his hands go. Add to that the point deduction on Floyd for pushing off with his elbow, and you have a HUGE round for Castillo.

G1B6ER15H
Castillo 10-9
Castillo wins it on consistent body work throughout the round. Mayweather has a moment of top quality in fighting, but it’s not enough to overcome the steady, thudding blows that Castillo lands.

FIGHTFANATIC1
Castillo 10-9
Mayweather made a mistake in this round by trying to stand and trade with Castillo in the middle of the ring. Castillo was able to pound on the body of Floyd at will. Floyd returned with short quick combinations to the head of Castillo on more than one occasion but over all the more consistent body work done throughout the round by Castillo takes this round.

ERISON
EVEN 10-10
I refuse to score this round. This was beautiful fighting by two skilled fighters. Both just stood toe to toe and traded. Mayweather landing better, Castillo landing more. Mayweather actually back JLC off a few times, showing his underused power. He looked like Sugar Ray Leonard this round! I truly believe that if Floyd fought the fight like this he'd have knocked Castillo out, and almost anyone else for that matter.

CEELOW
Castillo 10-9
JLC busier throwing much more punches than his foe. PBF catches JLC w/ some hard/ fast lefts & rights! Its a tale of 2 halfs - JLC was more effective during his opponent's half (Rd of success).

RASTA666
10-9 Castillo
Pretty good back and forth round. Floyd fighting in spurts and doing well at times but Castillo seems unfettered and pours in on over the last half.

LURKYSHAKA
10-9 Castillo
Mayweather inactive at start of round as Castillo lands well especially with body shots. Evens up during middle portion as Mayweather stands inside and shows some grit, before Castillo comes on again over last 40.

M__DE
10-9 Castillo
Close Round. Floyd stands toe to toe with Castillo. Castillo won the beggining of the round but Floyd came on strong at the end and seemed to land some very clean shots.

LAGAIDH
10-9 Castillo

BHOPREIGN
10-9 Castillo

GUYSTA
Castillo 10-9
This was a really fun round to watch. It was full of skill on both fighters as they stood in the center of the ring and traded punches nose to nose. Floyd seemed to land the better punches in the exchanges and did a better job of blocking and turning with the punches. But Castillo threw way more and was the busier fighter in the first minute before Floyd finally stood his ground. It was a really close round and a really fun round to watch. I thought Castillo slightly won it though on work throughout the round.

G1B6ER15H
Castillo 10-9
The first minute of the round is fought on even terms. After that Mayweather gets almost nothing effective done, while Castillo keeps the pressuring and landing good body work. Castillo even lands a solid left hook to Mayweather’s head at the end of the round.

FIGHTFANATIC1
Castillo 10-9
In this round Floyd fought with no desire. He kept it safe and was not willing to engage Castillo even though Castillo was pressing forward the whole time and when they got close Floyd was unwilling to box and instead kept getting himself tied up with Castillo. During the round Castillo kept a constant attack on the body of Floyd Mayweather Jr. and never left it. Floyd threw a few punches where it looked like he was trying to do damage but not only did they not land, but it was the end of his throwing with any intent.

ERISON
10-9 Castillo
Castillo did more of the same. Great bodywork, stayed right in Mayweather's face, and landed well. Floyd fought back hard, and showed more grit than usual, but he simply fought the wrong fight.

CEELOW
10-9 Castillo
JLC lands the more effective blows. He seems to want it more. PBF lands soem good counters...but too little..too late.

RASTA666
10-9 Castillo
Ugly round to score but Castillo continues to throw where as Floyd looks spent. Castillo gets this round almost on aggression alone.

LURKYSHAKA
10-9 Castillo
Scrappier round with Castillo winging shots and staying busy. Mayweather fires back in bursts but looks tired and keen to hear the bell. Messy round really.

Castillo 10-9
Castillo's body shots rule the day as Floyd seems to take the round off for the most part occasionally leaping in with a left hook.

GUYSTA
Castillo 10-9
A pretty good round for Castillo. He never stops coming forward and is constantly in Floyd's face again. Floyd lands some nice shots of his own in the round. But Castillo is too busy and landing too many shots of his own for Floyd to get the nod in the round.

Mayweather 115-113
This fight remains Mayweather’s toughest test to date. He took a lot of body blows that made me cringe. While Castillo landed the big shots, I feel Mayweather controlled a greater portion of the fight. On my card he wins the fight for controlling all of the relatively dull moments and some of the exciting ones too. Though at 115-113 it’s still a very close fight.

FIGHTFANATIC1
Total Castillo 7 rounds to 5 for Floyd
Overall Castillo was constantly on the attack and was the aggressor landing more power punches and landing with more vigor. Floyd was able to show his boxing ability in this fight but only in spurts and not in enough rounds to take a victory. Castillo showed his heart and his great chin having taken clean effective punches from Floyd and still stalking forward. The fact that Castillo came forward for much of the fight without jabbing is indicative of the size difference for Castillo and worked well for him. Overall it was an entertaining fight with both men giving and taking. I give the fight to Castillo based on the work he did to the body and consistency during the fight. Floyd showed well but just didn’t have what it took on this night.

ERISON
114-113 Castillo. I felt he clearly won this fight, by taking it to Mayweather and forcing Floyd to fight inside and dirty. Mayweather simply fought under his best, and Castillo fought his best. I think Hatton could easily emulate and recreate this fight, but I wonder if Mayweather is simply too good now, and has learned how to adjust to that type of fighter...

CEELOW
JLC 114-112
Very good fight. PBF showed his champion heart in this fight. IMO this is where he shows what he's made of. He controlled the first 4 rds and then Castillos hard shots seemed to slow him down a bit, and teh constant pressure was just so effective as JLC kept punching making PBF fight his (JLC's) fight. From the 5th Rd on, Castillo basically drowned PBF w/ his pressure late in teh fight. CAstillo landed the harder shots, and seemed to have landed more shots as well. It wasnt that PBF wouldn't, its that he could'nt fight his fight, Castillo never let him and in turn made PBF fight Castillo's fight. Something that hasn't been done before...or after.

RASTA666
Tally 114-112 Castillo.
Kind of a dirty fight but Castillo was the one who sought out engagement even when he lost rounds. I just don’t see how any fan can objectively award Floyd the fight. The best Floyd could have hoped for is a draw in which case the strap would have remained where it should have, around Castillos waste

LURKYSHAKA
Total 114-113 Castillo
Fight of two halves as Mayweather was able to stay away and take rounds early, before Castillo closes gap and comes on strong in second half. The key difference was Mayweather looked to steal and pinch punches, whilst Castillo seeked to do damage. Mayweather busy with little jabs and Castillo successful with powershots. Messy at times with both a bit dirty but entertaining. Castillo went low and punches on break and Mayweather holding on and using elbows.

M__DE
114-113 Mayweather
it was a very close fight. i could see how some people had Castillo winning. i thought there were 4 very very close rounds, rounds 3, 4, 9, 11. i scored those rounds 2-1-1 for Castillo. it was very close and i have no problem with either guy winning. however, the scores the judges gave were way off. no way Floyd won by those scores.

LAGAIDH
This is a 115-113 fight without the point deductions, but that doesn't really matter since each man loses a point. I thought as many as three rounds could have been given to either man. I ended up with almost the same score as Lederman, even though we disagreed on some rounds and had flipped scores for said rounds. In light of that, I can see Floyd getting the win without a lot of bitching. Castillo did outland Floyd albeit to the body. Sometimes fighters don't get the credit they are completely due for body shots; especially when the man taking the shots can still whirl around the ring (putting into question the effectiveness of the aggression to the body). On the other hand, I saw Floyd being ineffective for stretches of the close rounds, falling short with jabs and leads (I mean you can see fans in between Castillo and the end of Floyd's hand), and backpedalling.
It was a close, close fight. It was a very good fight, too, actually. In my rewatching, I think that was Floyd's most action-packed bout and the 12th round reminded me that Floyd has shown guts (something I confess I had forgotten about) by standing right in front of Castillo and trading blows.
But ultimately, I think Floyd gets more credit for blows that came up short and Castillo doesn't get enough credit for his solid body attack. In some rounds, Castillo even lands on Floyd in the dead center of the ring with his own jabs and counters. I was quite shocked in my rewatching when this happened as Floyd has never let himself be in that position since.

BHOPREIGN
114-113 MAYWEATHER

GUYSTA
Castillo 114-112
This was a close fight that I thought could have gone the way of a draw with one of 2 rounds that I gave to Castillo that could easily have been even imo. But I think a draw should have been the best case scenarion for Floyd. I don't really see how Floyd could get the nod in this fight and the scoring by the judges is BRUTAL. I give a lot of credit to Castillo for not stopping early on and keeping the pressure on Floyd when it looked like Floyd was going to have his way with him by potshotting him to an easy UD. It looked like there was definitely something wrong with Floyd though. There were many times when he had opportunities to throw and simply didn't. I don't know if he was tired or he was really hurt. But I have never seen that from him in a fight before or after. One other thing that I would like to comment on is the constant low blows by Castillo. There were many many punches that were below Floyd's belt that Vic just ignored like they weren't low. I didn't understand it, but I thought Floyd looked like a whiney baby constantly crying about them. You fight the fight the ref allows and crying about low blows or headbutts or any other fouls only hurts the fighter that is crying about them. If anything, it gives the fighter that is getting away with it more confidence imo.......
Over all I thought Castillo won and the final scores by the garbage judges was a real shame for Castillo who deserved better than he go from the three blind mice.........

The Official Judge’s scores read as follows:

John Keane of England – 115-111 for Mayweather

Jerry Roth of Nevada- 115-111 for Mayweather

Anek Hongtongkam of Thailand-116-111 for Mayweather

Harold Lederman of HBO had it-115-111 for Castillo.

All the announcers, including Foreman had Castillo ahead.

LARRY MERCHANT`s POST FIGHT INTERVIEW WITH FLOYD MAYWEATHER

Post by Astor »

Image

The audience booed the decision while Jim Lampley mentioned that he didn’t know what fight they (the Judges) were watching. He said it wasn’t the first time a decision like this was handed out. I knew it wouldn’t be the last. This is what happens in the absence of a legitimate National Boxing Commission. The Judges are obviously paid by the promoters who tell them how to score the fight regardless what actually happens in the ring.

As Larry Merchant conducted the post fight interviews, he asked Floyd whether he thought the fight was close toward the end when his corner asked him to stand and punch.

Merchant: In the last few rounds, you received instructions from your corner, your uncle, Roger, saying you had to stand and fight him. Were you under the impression that the fight was very close at that time and that you had to pull it out?

Floyd said, “First, before I even answer that question, I want to say, you know, you know, that GRANT Boxing makes the best Boxing gloves in the business and the best outfits in the business.”

L.M.- “We don’t do commercials.”

F.M.- “Well, you know, but I’m gonna give them some props, of course I know you don’t, but this is my moment to shine. And so let me speak my piece. I want to thank God for this victory. And he was tough. My last training day, I hurt my rotator cuff in my left shoulder, so I couldn’t use my jab the way I want to. My left wasn’t as strong as I wanted it to be, but I didn’t want to have no excuses, you know, like other champions, you know, when they get hurt they won’t even show up to the fight. I get hurt I keep fighting, you know, I want to bring the fans a victory.”

L.M.- “All right now but answer the question. Were you under the impression, given the instructions from your corner, that you really had to stand and fight him in the last two rounds, that it was very, very close?”

F.M.- “Actually, my uncle told me that I was wearing him down, so he told me that, in all the big fights, if you wear a guy down by like around the 10th, 11th or 12th, you know, stand there and break him down. So I wasn’t worried at all, I was out boxing him easily.”

L.M.- “Was he much tougher than you anticipated? You, after all said, this was an easy fight en route to bigger fights.”

F.M.- “You don’t realize, I beat this guy with a messed up arm, my arm is messed up. I don’t have no excuses. I don’t never back down and turn down fights.”

L.M.- “So it was a harder fight than you anticipated, with what you came into the ring with.”

F.M.-“With one arm, yes. If he wants a rematch, we can do it again.”

L.M.- “So are you suggesting that you think, given the fact that a lot of people here believe that he won the fight, that you think you SHOULD give him a rematch?”

F.M.- “This is Boxing, you have ups, you have downs. He was a good fighter, it was a good fight for both of us, it was a good learning experience for me and I’m …I’m looking forward to moving on.”

L.M.- “All right, you moved up in weight and you fought a very strong Lightweight, did you find out it was a little more difficult than you anticipated?”

F.M.- “No, not at all. I fought the best Lightweight, because that’s what I want, exciting fights. So I moved up to fight the best Lightweight they got out there. I took my time and did what I had to do.”

L.M.- “Thank you very much Floyd.”

LARRY MERCHANT`s INTERVIEW WITH JOSE LUIS CASTILLO

L.M.- “You seemed shocked by the decision. Did you think you had won the fight easily?”

J.L.C.- “It wasn’t easy, it was a complicated fight, I felt that I out worked him enough to obtain the victory. But the Judges call it like that.”

L.M.-“Did you feel that the Judges sided with him because he’s the favorite, because he comes from Las Vegas, because this is where he works out of?”

J.L.C.- “Yes, I thought so. The Judges are supposed to be impartial, but this time they were not and gave the wrong decision. I thought I won the fight, but I spoke to Bob Arum and he says he will get me a rematch.” (Ray Torres ineptly misinterpreted Castillo saying that Arum had ‘guaranteed’ him a rematch, although Castillo never said that.)

L.M.- “Where did you get that guarantee from?”

J.L.C.- “He (Bob Arum) never said it was guaranteed, but he said most likely we’ll have a rematch.”

L.M. – “Did you feel that your strength overcame his quickness in this fight and that being the aggressor, you were dictating the fight?”

J.L.C.- “Yes, because he felt my punches, they were a little harder than his. I was the stronger fighter.”

L.M.- “Did he ever hurt you at all, and did you hurt him?”

J.L.C.- “One time he caught me with a left hook, it hurt a little bit, but I know I hurt him more.”

L.M.- “Thank you for a wonderful fight, congratulations.”

J.L.C.- “I want to thank HBO for having me on and I hope they will give me an opportunity to have a rematch. Thank you.”

I made an error in rd 8. I could have sworn their was a butt. But reviewing the fight as I type this it was indeed a shot at the break. Still 9-9 though.

I like the format of each guys round together in separate threads.

I saw the same fight that the judges did. I thought Castillo lost the first five rounds. He even admitted to losing the first four. It's hard to comeback from a defecit like that. i felt that people got carried away because they saw floyd in a competive fight.

There's no way Floyd won this fight, although due to the nature of the rounds, the scoring is closer than the fight was.

115-111 Jose Luis Castilo

I'm pretty sure the rounds I saw for Floyd. Were 1-3 and 11. Each fighter lost a point at some point in the bout.
