- Rice landed a huge right in the 6th round which resulted in a nasty gash by Vianello's left eye.
- In the 7th round, the ringside physician stopped the bout because of the cut. Referee Benjy Esteves, Jr. initially ruled the cut had been caused by a clash of heads. Fortunately, a representative of the Oneida Indian Nation Athletic Commission, the commission in charge, requested that Esteves review the ESPN replay of when the cut first appeared. Esteves did and then correctly ruled the cut had been caused by a punch.
