- Geffrard was a late substitute. Smith was originally slated to defend the WBO World light heavyweight title against Callum Johnson (Transnational Boxing Rankings Board #10; 20-1, 14 KOs). Johnson had to withdraw after testing positive for COVID-19.
- Smith outlanded Geffrard by a wide margin throughout the fight and, in round 9, unleashed a 16-punch barrage that sent Geffrard to the canvas.
- This was Smith's first successful defense of his WBO belt.
