Bermane Stiverne (WBA #11; 25-5-1, 21 KOs)
- This was Bryan's first bout since he won the then vacant WBA Interim title by TKOing BJ Flores in the fourth round on 8/11/18.
- Stiverne had not won since he unanimously outpointed Derric Rossy on 11/14/15. Since then, he was kayoed in the first round by Deontay Wilder on 11/4/17 and TKOed in the sixth round by Joe Joyce on 2/23/19.
- Bryan was originally scheduled to fight then WBA World heavyweight chasmpion Mahmoud "Manuel" Charr (31-4, 17 KOs). Earlier on January 29, the WBA changed Charr's status to "Champion in Recess" and Stiverne re-entered the WBA's heavyweight Top 15 at #11. Charr had not fought since he won the then vacant WBA title by unanimously outpointing Alexander Ustinov on 11/25/17.
