R.I.P. former Lineal and WBC World junior featherweight/super bantamweight champion Royal Kobayashi

R.I.P. Juan Domingo Roldan(3/6/57-11/18/20)

Former Argentine and South American middleweight champion Juan Domingo Roldan died yesterday at the age of 63. His death was attributed to complications stemming from COVID-19.

From during the period of 1978 through 1984, Roldan defeated, among others, Jacinto Fernandez, Jose Maria Flores Burlon, Juan Carlos Peralta, Carlos Flores Burlon, Ricardo Arce, Irish Teddy Mann, and Frank "The Animal" Fletcher. He unsuccessfully challenged for the world middleweight title in 1984, losing by TKO in the 10th round to Marvelous Marvin Hagler. Roldan was credited with knocking Hagler down in the first round, the questionable knockdown being the only time Hagler was down in his career. After one more bout, a decision over Andre Mongelema, Roldan retired.

The retirement lasted until 1986 when Roldan launched a comeback that resulted in wins over, again among others, Juan Carlos Gimenez, J. B. Williamson, Carlos Herrera, James "The Heat" Kinchen, and Hugo Corro, a shot at the vacant WBC middleweight title in 1987 (KO-4 loss to Thomas Hearns), and a shot at the IBF middleweight title in 1988 (KO-8 loss to Michael Nunn). He retired again after his bout with Nunn.

Overall, Roldan compiled a record of 67 wins, 5 losses, 2 draws, and 1 No Contest including 47 wins by knockout.
