- Kotochigov had his moments but did not have enough of them to prevent Hughes from scoring his second consecutive major upset.
- Hughes, who unanimously outpointed Jono Carroll on August 12, dethroned Kotochigov by the scores of 96-93, 97-92, and 95-94.

- Hughes hurt Kotochigov in round 2, decked him with an uppercut in round 3, and hurt him again in round 8.
- Kotochigov had his moments but did not have enough of them to prevent Hughes from scoring his second consecutive major upset.
- Hughes, who unanimously outpointed Jono Carroll on August 12, dethroned Kotochigov by the scores of 96-93, 97-92, and 95-94.
