SIXTY YEARS AGO:

November 24, 1951-

Belfast, Northern Ireland-

Two-time Northern Ireland welterweight champion Tommy Armour lost an 8-round, non-title bout by decision to George "Ginger" Roberts.

Armour, who made his professional debut on January 6, 1936 with a 6-round points win over Terry McGovern, continued boxing until December 20, 1952 when he lost by TKO in the third round of a non-title bout to Jack Baker. Armour then retired with a record of 138 wins, 41 losses, 4 draws, and 1 No Contest with 72 wins by knockout.

Brooklyn, New York, USA-

Future World Boxing Hall of Fame inductee Joey Giambra won an 8-round, unanimous decision over Gus Rubicini. Giambra weighed in at 148 3/4; Rubicini at 152 1/2. The bout was considered, at the time, to be a middleweight contest.

Giambra would fight in the WBA's inaugural junior middleweight contest, losing a 15-round, unanimous decision to fellow future WBHF inductee Denny Moyer on October 20, 1962.

1978: Dimitri Kirilov (Dmitry Kirillov) born.

Kirillov was a tough customer. He gave Luis Perez a hell of a fight. In fact, I thought he should have won the decision.
