1909- Jackie (Kid) Berg born Judah Bergman.

1939- Joe Louis KO 4 (Two-Ton) Tony Galento, Bronx, NY. Retains World Heavyweight Title. Louis, despite being dropped for a count of 2 in round three, easily destroyed the 5’ 9”, 233 ¾ lb. Galento.

1946- Bob Montgomery KO 13 Allie Stolz, NYC. Retains New York World Lightweight Title.

1948- Sugar Ray Robinson W 15 Bernard Docusen, Chicago. Retains World Welterweight Title.

1955- Willie Pastrano W 10 Joey Maxim, New Orleans.

1972- Mando Ramos W 15 Pedro Carrasco, Madrid. Retains WBC Lightweight Title.

1980- Alan Minter KO 9 Vito Antuofermo, London. Retains World Middleweight Title.

1985- Ji Won Kim KO 4 Bobby Berna, Pusan, South Korea. Retains IBF Junior Featherweight Title.

1991- Mike Tyson W 12 Razor Ruddock, Las Vegas.

1991- Azumah Nelson D 12 Jeff Fenech, Las Vegas. Retains WBC Super Featherweight Title. A very controversial split decision, 115-113 for Fenech. 116-112 for Nelson. The third scorecard deadlocked at 114-114.

1991- Joey Gamache KO 10 Jerry Ngobeni, Lewiston, ME. Wins vacant WBA Super Featherweight Title.

1993- Genaro Hernandez KO 8 Raul Perez, Los Angeles. Retains WBA Super Featherweight Title.

1997- Evander Holyfield W DQ. 3 Mike Tyson, Las Vegas. Retains WBA Heavyweight Title. The infamous ear-biting incident.

2003- Eric Morel W 12 Isidro Garcia, Bayamon, Puerto Rico. Retains WBA Flyweight Title.

2004- Katsushige Kawashima KO 1 Masamori Tokuyama, Yokohama, Japan. Wins WBC Super Flyweight Title.

2004- Eagle Kyowa Tech. W 8 Satoshi Kogumazaka, Yokohama, Japan. Retains WBC Strawweight Title.

2008- Manny Pacquiao KO 9 David Diaz, Las Vegas. Wins WBC Lightweight Title.

Born On This Day

1943- Ismael Laguna (born Ismael Laguna Meneses in Colon, Panama)
Laguna was inducted into the International Boxing Hall of Fame in 2001.
Known as "El Tigre Colonense", Laguna was the Panamanian Featherweight Champion from 1962-63. He later was the World Lightweight Champion in 1965 and later regained the belt in 1970, but he was stripped of his WBC title prior to losing the WBA Title to Ken Buchanan)
Laguna also lost 15 round decisions in two other bids to regain his lightweight title, in 1967 against Carlos Ortiz, and in 1971 to Ken Buchanan. He retired after the loss to Buchanan in 1971.

1968- Terronn Millett (born in Colorado Springs, CO)
Millett was the 1991 National Golden Gloves Light welterweight champion.
Known as "The Tramp", Millett turned pro in 1993 won the IBF Light Welterweight Title with a 5th round TKO over Vince Phillips in February 1999. He defended the title against Virgil McClendon, courtesy of a 12th round TKO, but was stripped of his belt shortly afterwards. In 2000, he tried to regain his belt but lost to Zab Judah in a 4th round TKO in which Millett dropped Judah in the 1st. Although he never fought again for another title, he later fought and lost to Arturo Gatti, Ricardo Williams Jr, and Michael Stewart before retiring in 2003.

1985- Anselmo Moreno (born in El Martillo, Republic of Panama)
Moreno won the WBA bantamweight title from the Ukrainian Wladimir Sidorenko on May 31, 2008, to become Panama's 25th world champion. He defended his title against Cecillo Santos by technical decision as a result from an accidental headbutt. Moreno defended his crown for the second time on October 30, 2008 with a unanimous decision win over Rolly Matsushita. In July 2009, he made a successful defense of the WBA title against Mahyar Monshipour.
